UA to buy tablets for athletes

been hearing rumors of this for years. I did a pilot test of sorts for them way back when on an Android tablet. If you can get ALL your textbooks that you need on there and they don't charge exuberant amounts of money, all the while restricting how you can even use the digital copy, it'll be a success. There are a lot of positives to be had through the use of tablets in a school environment.

The interesting part of how this will shake out is confidentiality of data/information. Since they're loaned, theyre the university's property... but if students are entering logins or other private information onto them, where does the line exist for what the University has control over? iPads, or any new Apple device for that matter, can be remotely locked, wiped clean, or a number of other things without any ability for the person holding the device to intervene... so I am wondering what the agreement works out to be...

Article didn't mention whether the student can purchase their IPad at graduation for a discounted cost. This could put some money back into this great program and address the privacy issues as well.

Good idea and truly an asset to the students and could save $ for the athletic budget as far as the cost of books. Are all or most of the mandatory class text books available as an ebook?

depends on the major. And also depends on what you define as an ebook.

I could get most of my textbooks through the Ohio Link library system, but I had to be using a laptop or a desktop in order to really be able to use them.

Id say the vast majority of gen ed classes are available in ebook format... its the core classes and their textbooks where things might get a bit harder to come by.
