UA Grad Rate is Awful

" Of all the first-time, full-time students who enroll at the main campus at the University of Akron, only 14 percent graduate in four years.

• Only 38 percent graduate in six years."

I am not included in their graduation stats though I graduated from Akron and went on to Northwestern University. I liked Akron due to the high percentage of older/more experienced students. Made for a better classroom environment.

Is it true that Akron is not mandated by the state to remain open enrollment?

Another reason why the University of Akron is slowly sliding to an new, pathetic low. My graduation cannot come fast enough! Can we please get some "real" people incharge of academics and standards to take over decision making please? "Encouragers" getting paid $8 an hour (which isn't worth the hassle or the time), just seems plain desperate...and makes those of us who are good students look bad for choosing to go to Akron.

Not to mention they 'prefer' people with master's degrees for these 'encourager' positions. As someone working on a master's now, $8 per hour for an advanced degree is incredibly insulting, especially for a place of supposed higher learning.

I could literally roll burritos at Chipotle for more than $8 per hour and receive enough hours to get health insurance. UA conveniently caps this position at 25 hours per week, just few enough so they can withhold benefits.

Sounds like a gig for retired teachers. Collect your pension and put in 25 hrs. a week at the U. Stress free beer money if you ask me.

Or a supplemental position. Profs making an extra $8 an hour to talk to some students in their spare time, maybe?

I'm fairly certain professors will not be lining up to lock in an extra $8/hr before tax to encourage university attendees. If they need extra cash, most profs sell their blood, sperm, or body parts.

I love telling people that I graduated from UA. The general public also has no idea about grad rates but they value the school because of the enthusiasm and performance of grads. Grad rates are a strange thing in that qualified people will graduate and serve as the face of UA. Akron grads are well though of by local employers and I could not be more pleased with the real world spin they put on everything in the CBA. Miami and OU grads act like they went to Harvard or something while Akron grads preach job experience and real world chops.
