Home opener vs. JMU

Some of you are nervous about this game. That's pathetic. Anyway, here is the link to JMU's message board: http://csnbbs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=685. If you have a login for the MAC boards, it should work there, too.

Now down to business. This is a game we match up favorably in. Comparing the 2-deep for our offensive and defensive lines, we have a clear advantage on both sides. The players on our O-line average 40 lbs more than their D-linemen. JMU's offense is mostly on the ground. They have a QB that likes to run. Their passing attack is not much of a threat, which allows Akron to put a spy on the QB to contain him. Their defense is vulnerable to the pass, and I expect that we'll see more deep throws by Pohl in this game.

Bowden and the team are taking this game very seriously. They know what is at stake. We are no overlooking JMU like certain teams have overlooked FCS opponents this season.

I expect the 2-deep for this game to be quite different than the one we had for UCF, and I also think we'll see less conservative playcalling on offense.

Zach,

I appreciate your optimism and I certainly hope you are correct in your analysis. A big shake up in the 2 deep might just wake up some people. It certainly seemed like some folks down the depth chart want to play harder than some ahead of them. Coach Bowden has said numerous times how important competition for playing time is. Shake it up!

45 FCS currently ranked ahead of Akron. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/ncaaf/sagarin/2012/team/ including JMU, a program that is a couple years removed from beating #13 ranked VaTech in Blacksburg. Shouldn't Zips Nation be nervous about EVERY game at this point?

"Ratings" dont mean anything and are based largely off of the last several years of terrible Akron football. This team isnt nearly as bad as the past teams. I am also confident that Bowden understands he screwed up the game plan for UCF. If James Madison really believes that 45 FCS teams are better than Akron (this years Akron), then they are in for a rude awakening on Saturday evening.

You know how I know you have no clue whatsoever how the Sagarin rating system works?

Get back to me when the teams are well connected and the ratings aren't relying on last season's rating to make it look like every team isn't rated a 1 or 0 because only a single game has been played for each team.

Ugh, I forgot about that VT game. Nice win, but I hope you don't get another one this week.

There was a guess that you guys might bring 5,000 people to this game. Is that possibly true? Pretty long trip for 5k people. But we'll gladly take your ticket money!

No. Because "ranking" systems are asinine, and completely worthless to predicting the outcomes of games. There's that the NCAA ranking system for BCS championships are such popularity non-sense...because there is no actual way to rank teams who only have a 12 game season.
