fknbuflobo Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Don't worry, I am not bumming a ride. Gotta work early Monday. Hopefully, the match will be streamed through MAC. Mountaineers will likely be the toughest MAC test for Zips, especially considering overall health of roster. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 Some AK-Rowdies are trying to organize a carpool from the JAR. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make this game, although I really hope to. Also, it shouldn't take 3 1/2 hours to get there unless you're taking the scenic route through Steubenville or something. It's 2 1/2 hours from Akron. Quote

Ando Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 it's a shorter drive for me - about 1.5 I think contemplating it Quote
Ando Posted September 29, 2013 Report Posted September 29, 2013 roll call - anyone headed down? Quote
fknbuflobo Posted September 29, 2013 Author Report Posted September 29, 2013 Anyone have the stream? Brenes scored, but I didn't see it. Quote
fknbuflobo Posted September 29, 2013 Author Report Posted September 29, 2013 WVU stream Thanks. I had the same link....... whatever. Working now. Quote
fknbuflobo Posted September 29, 2013 Author Report Posted September 29, 2013 HT. I am happy that local boy Brad Ruhaak got the start, but he had better calm down and get it together. Quote
fknbuflobo Posted September 30, 2013 Author Report Posted September 30, 2013 Remember two years ago, when many here protested interaction from the pep band? I think WV Mountaineers sound great at HT. ............Brenes...... Stevenson....Portillos Derschang....Foldesy ............Souto......... Ruhaak..Abdul-Salaam ....Galego......Souders .............Pena............ Quote
fknbuflobo Posted September 30, 2013 Author Report Posted September 30, 2013 Zips nearly surrender a garbage header goal. Quote
Dave in Green Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 Just now checking in. What happened in the match? Quote
Dave in Green Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 Never mind. Just did a quick internet search and found the Zips won 1-0. Quote
Blue & Gold Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 In recent year's past we would have won 3-0. So the win is great but the lack of being able to finish still has me concerned. Quote
Dave in Green Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 Love the description of the game from WVU Soccer on Twitter: WVU with some great chance in the last 10 minutes, just not able to get the ball past Akron's keeper. If the Zips can't score a lot this season, they're going to need brilliant performance from the GK to be successful. Quote
Ando Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 just got back from Morgantown Not sure that WVU tweets a totally fair characterization to be honest. The game was really stretched at the end, Akron had more in the way of clear cut chances than WVU during that period, and over the course of the game as well. Pina did have a pretty good game, though I think he really only needed to make one especially noteworthy save if memory serves. As a whole I think we looked really good up until the first goal, pretty flat for awhile after that, and then intermittently good/kinda shit At the end we moved away from a 4-3-3 into more of a 4-2-3-1 (or a 4-3-3 with an upside down midfield triangle if you prefer). Thought Caso put in a good defensive shift when he came on. Quote
fknbuflobo Posted September 30, 2013 Author Report Posted September 30, 2013 Very imprecise and disjointed passing! Zips were lucky to string together any multiple passes that weren't in their own half. Some careless defensive turnovers could have easily cost them the match. Chalk it as a conference win on the road, but it was far from inspiring. Quote
Ando Posted October 1, 2013 Report Posted October 1, 2013 Defensive errors were an issue for sure - Ruhaak had a bit of a shocker all game long, and Gallego had one pretty glaring error as well; With Gallego it feels like a probable pne-off, but I'm concerned in Brad's case the kid might just not have the technique to hack it as an everyday option. Another thing I think bears mentioning is that WVU probably helped us by trying to play a proper football match rather than incessantly lumping it forward at every opportunity - they were sloppy taking it out of the back a few times as well, which led to a few decent chances for us Quote
