LZIp Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 OU is a good team who will compete or even win the East. Similar to Bowling Green in that they have a strong running game, but they have a dual threat QB, which has given our D problems. I've watched some of them this year, and they are even taking Tettleton out sometimes to use and even more run-oriented QB. We can definitely compete with these guys, just like we can with every other MAC team on our schedule (exluding NIU and BSU probably). I just want to get over the damn hump. I know the team is showing improvement, but competing and coming up short hurts more than getting blown out. Nothing would make me happier than upsetting a good OU team this season. I dislike them almost as much as Can't.
ZachTheZip Posted September 30, 2013 Report Posted September 30, 2013 I'm not so convinced that Ohio is very good this season. All three of their wins were at home, and none against good competition. Their only road game saw them getting smacked around by Louisville, and the only game that they won by more than six points was against Austin Peay. They struggled against Marshall and North Texas, but pulled out wins because of home-field advantage. The only thing we really know about Ohio is that they're good enough to squeak by mediocre teams at home.

North Texas beat Ball State and played #6 Georgia tough. Marshall beat their first two opponents by a combined 107-14 and took Virginia Tech to OT. Both teams will win a lot of games this year. As for Ohio, here's a couple of tweets from their beat writer about the Offensive Line that have me very concerned- "Ohio has lost 10 veteran OL since end of last season (4 grads, 1 did not return, 5 currently injured). Smoke and mirrors time" "True frosh Durrell Wood expected to start at UA at right guard. Current starting lineup is 3 sophomore, RS freshman, and true freshman." Hows the front 7 for Akron this year? Have you had success stopping the run? Ohio is hell bent on establishing the un so they'll run it up the gut for no gain an agonizing 25 times a game.

Play calling seems to be their downfall, they bite on a lot. If your QB sits in the pocket on obvious passing downs he will get sacked. Example: six sacks last week in the first half. Teams have learned this, adjusted play calling at half and have success. In one word, they are an enigma.

Our front seven on defense have played very well, but our defense as a whole gives up on average 30 points per game. Our defensive backfield has been playing 'man' coverage and have made some spectacular plays, but about 8 plays a game someone on the defense misses a tackle or an assignment and our opponent goes for big yardage. Should be an exciting game. Here's hoping our QB's are 100% for this one.
