WOW! How many more Nanchoffs can fall of the tree(s)? :P We'll take all we can get!

Here's a story from Porterland on Jesse.

'Garcia-Aguilar has high hopes for his future, so much so that college soccer is his fallback. His dream of wearing a first-team jersey in front of the Timbers raucous fans at Jeld-Wen Field may be more of a reality than he realizes.

"That's my dream, to play professionally," he said. "That's what I'm working for, and if I can't I'll just hopefully go to college."'

Is Alex Segovia going to college?

love that the timbers academy is apparently going to be a pipeline

Seriously, how perfect is that? If a kid in the academy isn't ready for the first team, Porter sends him to Akron, where he knows what kind of training he is going to get, since you know, Embick was his right hand man, and then when they are ready he can sign them with the first team. And during summer break when they're in college, they can go play with the U-23 team. It would be nice if this could just keep happening for a long time.

I just hope this doesn't have negative consequences with other MLS teams. Would the Crew consider Akron a bad choice for their academy players with Akron's relationship with Porter?

I would like to see more academy prospects from the Crew.

We've sure had our share in the past... But none since the departure of Porter?

Well... Speaking of Columbus Crew Academy: The US U-18 Team is holding a training camp in Florida this week, and a very interesting player there is 15 year old midfielder Benjamin Swanson of Columbus Crew Academy and Grove City, Ohio, the #2 ranked player in his class. By the time he makes his college decision, he should have made quite a name for himself, if his progress continues at the current pace. Wonder if anyone on the board is familiar with him at the club or high school level. Did he play for Grove City HS, by any chance? He's a sophomore now by grade. Of course we know that in the past, this type prospect would most likely see Akron as the most desirable college destination. His recruitment will be an interesting test of the durability of the relationship with Crew Academy which we are so in need of preserving.

Maybe Adam Najem could point him in the right direction while in Florida. :D

I found this interesting piece from last August on the Crew website. Does anyone else find it suspicious that the training camp was held in Portland -- a site not normally used for national team camps? I wonder if the Timbers just happened to be in town at the same time?! ;)

Also, came across this, From the Dispatch, indicating that Ben is already 16, and has been playing way ahead of his age for awhile. And, ahem... he plans to attend college (for hopefully more than a year!)
