TennZip Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 I might be behind the times.... I had not heard of these 2 commitments from a Nov. 25 article on topdrawer soccer.com http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer...itions_aid32110 Other commitments: Midfielder Jesse Garcia-Aguilar (Portland Timbers Academy) committed to Akron for the class of 2014. Midfielder Brent Nanchoff (Internationals SC) committed to Akron for the class of 2014. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player...choff/pid-71226 http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player...ar/pid-10023977 Quote
ZachTheZip Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 Is Brent related to Michael? Almost certainly. Quote
yazan07 Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 Almost certainly. Yes, I believe they are cousins. Mikey is George's son, Brett is probably Louis' son. Quote
fknbuflobo Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 Is Brent related to Michael? Smith? Jones? Nanchoff? It is really tough to say with such common names. Quote

How many more Nanchoffs can fall of the tree(s)? We'll take all we can get! Here's a story from Porterland on Jesse. Quote
fknbuflobo Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 'Garcia-Aguilar has high hopes for his future, so much so that college soccer is his fallback. His dream of wearing a first-team jersey in front of the Timbers raucous fans at Jeld-Wen Field may be more of a reality than he realizes. "That's my dream, to play professionally," he said. "That's what I'm working for, and if I can't I'll just hopefully go to college."' Is Alex Segovia going to college? Quote
TennZip Posted November 29, 2013 Author Report Posted November 29, 2013 http://www.ohio.com/news/top-stories/forme...dreams-1.187703 this old article from the Beacon confirms that Brent is Louie's son Quote
Ando Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 Is Alex Segovia going to college? Aren't he and rubio mendez-rubin still a year away regardless? I could be wrong love that the timbers academy is apparently going to be a pipeline Quote
Ando Posted December 1, 2013 Report Posted December 1, 2013 actually, according to the timber's website, Alex graduates this spring. Hmm. this link is a shortcut to TDS's running tally of our commits not sure how often that's updated Quote
yazan07 Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 love that the timbers academy is apparently going to be a pipeline Seriously, how perfect is that? If a kid in the academy isn't ready for the first team, Porter sends him to Akron, where he knows what kind of training he is going to get, since you know, Embick was his right hand man, and then when they are ready he can sign them with the first team. And during summer break when they're in college, they can go play with the U-23 team. It would be nice if this could just keep happening for a long time. Quote
fknbuflobo Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 love that the timbers academy is apparently going to be a pipeline That is hardly a surprise. Right? Quote
bobbyake Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 love that the timbers academy is apparently going to be a pipeline I just hope this doesn't have negative consequences with other MLS teams. Would the Crew consider Akron a bad choice for their academy players with Akron's relationship with Porter? I would like to see more academy prospects from the Crew. Quote

Z.I.P. Posted December 3, 2013 Report Posted December 3, 2013 Yeah. Too bad Robert Warzycha couldn't have been fired last year. Too bad except for Caleb! I don't think anyone can turn Columbus around right now. Quote

Speaking of Columbus Crew Academy: The US U-18 Team is holding a training camp in Florida this week, and a very interesting player there is 15 year old midfielder Benjamin Swanson of Columbus Crew Academy and Grove City, Ohio, the #2 ranked player in his class. By the time he makes his college decision, he should have made quite a name for himself, if his progress continues at the current pace. Wonder if anyone on the board is familiar with him at the club or high school level. Did he play for Grove City HS, by any chance? He's a sophomore now by grade. Of course we know that in the past, this type prospect would most likely see Akron as the most desirable college destination. His recruitment will be an interesting test of the durability of the relationship with Crew Academy which we are so in need of preserving. Quote

Z.I.P. Posted January 5, 2014 Report Posted January 5, 2014 I found this interesting piece from last August on the Crew website. Does anyone else find it suspicious that the training camp was held in Portland -- a site not normally used for national team camps? I wonder if the Timbers just happened to be in town at the same time?! Also, came across this, From the Dispatch, indicating that Ben is already 16, and has been playing way ahead of his age for awhile. And, ahem... he plans to attend college (for hopefully more than a year!) Quote

fknbuflobo Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 Rubio Rubin is going pro Is that a certainty? This year to Timbers? Quote
Crew8 Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 Is that a certainty? This year to Timbers? Don't think he has any attachment to the Timbers currently, but rather a verbal commitment to Dutch FC Utrecht. http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-soccer...n-2014_aid32333 Quote
