i don't think kd is going anywhere. jd may be another matter. what's funny is some think the university has a blank checkbook to give the coaches whatever they ask for. most universties lose $$$$$$$ on fottball.if you don't have it kinda hard to pay for it. we are not the big ten with big tv contracts, stadium revenues ect. you have to make the best of the situation.akron is no different than any other mac school. football loses $$$.

i couldn't agree more racer... and PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP COMPAIRING US TO UCF!!!!!! right now ucf is the largest public school in florida and has tons of money to throw into their sports programs and is located in orlando. it wont happen any time soon that akron gives jd 1mill. per like ucf just did so just stop it! if we want to look to our competition look no further than the other schools in the mac that (last i checked) still out draw us. hopefully that will change this year and we'll be on to bigger and better things we the university needs to learn to walk before it can run. :screwks:

You guys still don't get it.JD can sign his contract and walk a year later. No one tries to keep a coach around who has a better offer, because it would be a terrible situation. Paying them more is for two reasons: one, he EARNED IT. COY his first year, MAC champs his second. Pay the man.Second, when JD leaves, and I believe he eventually will, to get quality guys to want the job Akron had better have the reputation of paying people appropriately. Coaching is a very small fraternity, they all know each other, and they all talk. JD would certainly be asked his opinion of his compensation, working for Mack, facilities, administration, etc. It is essential to our future success that we compensate JD and get that contract resigned soon. And I wouldn't assume Dambrot is never leaving. Yes, this is his dream job, but if someone offered him a chunk more it would be extremely difficult to turn down. His situation, however, is one that if we did pay him appropriately, I believe we could keep him long term. Paying KD more is a no brainer, because it accomplishes everything, including keeping a successful coach in Akron. But just because JD might leave is no reason to not compensate him for his success and resign his contract. It helps recruiting, and it is fair and just.

Press release when they were hired 2 years ago said that JD was signed for 165K per season. He also got some some incentives for bowl appearances, MAC champs etc. This would put him in the top 4-5 of MAC football coaches league wide. Not sure about the library comment above, but I do remember the press release saying he was 165K and I remember Proenza's quote that we paid a little more than we expected to because JD was the right guy.Press release when KD was hired listed him at 110K per year. This is the bottom or near the bottom in the league. Average bball salary is around 140K per year. Muncie paper had an article on MAC coaching salaries after Buckley got fired. O'Shea was #1 around 200-225K. Chrisitan is now at 250. Most everyone else is in the 140-150 range with a few at the bottom. You move people to appropriate places given your constraints. That is how you treat people fairly. KD should move to the middle of the range. Chances are he loves Akron and will not leave. That doesn't mean you keep him at 110K for life. It also doesn't mean you pay him 500K a year and bankrupt your dept. JD should get a nice increase. It does nothing to keep him from bolting for double the salary if all he cares about is money. But it treats him right. We can afford to give each of them another 30-40K per season. The UA athletic budget was 14M last year. Giving each coach a 40K raise and then doubling that for benefits is 160K. 160K out of 14M is about 1.2% of the athletic budget. For a 60M stadium, it is 0.25%. Giving each of them this much can't make a difference on building a new stadium or not building a new stadium. And it sure should not cripple the athletic dept.We always hear how poor UA is. Mack Rhodes was seen as the guy to lead Akron sports to the next level. His salary in the paper was reported at $190K annually. In Mack's interviewing for jobs last year with Sunbelt teams, the reported offers were around 90K. If you a guy is the right one, find the money to get him. I am not picking on Mack in anyway. Contracts were already set when he got here. But I can gurantee 110K for a bball coach is probably at the low end in the country for any conference. To me it doesn't hurt us financially, and we are treating these guys the right way.
