zipsbandman Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 Toledo and Ohio State have agreed to a 1-1 series in football with the rockets to play the Buckeys in Brown's stadium in 2010 and then play in the shoe in 2011. This is really unheard of from OSU, and on another note their basketball team is playing Cleveland State in the Wolstein Center. It's great to see a school like OSU willing to venture out of the shoe once in a while, and it certainly earns my respect. On another note, where the hell is Akron in all this? Why are Bowling Green and Toledo both coming to our backyard to play a home game, enabling them to come and steal our recruits? If we're not building the stadium, let's take any chance we can get to get out of the Rubber Bowl. All these schools in the MAC are adding revenue and gaining exposure with these kid of games, and we need to follow. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 If Bowling Green getting waxed 65-13 in Cleveland in front of 17,000 people is "exposure" I'd rather not have it. Most of those tickets will be give-aways. The only revenue generated by a team in this game will be what Wisconsin takes home as their guarantee cash. Probably around $400,000?Toledo will be playing OSU in front of 80,000 OSU fans. Good for them. I'd rather play Syracuse on our home field. Quote

Captain Kangaroo Posted June 8, 2006 Report Posted June 8, 2006 I know the previous administration was approched about playing games in Cleveland and declined. They didn't want to give up the home field advantage in any game. Wrong or right, that was their point of view. I would rather play a few "marquee" games in Canton @ Fawcett. That would make more sense than Cleveland. It is true that the Rubber Bowl is such a dump it gives us a nice home field advantage. Opposing teams HATE playing there. Quote

Probably because at any moment a 500 pound woman eating a 9 dollar hotdog might come crashing through the ceiling of the visitors locker room. THAT is the Akron Advantage. Forget "Fear the Roo", Fear the poor construction and fat people standing on it. Quote

msopher Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 Well, although the stadium will have a sea of scarlet of red, UT will bask in the $$$$, which is what this game is about, unfortunately. Still, this could be a good game depending on how both teams look in 2009. Quote
mrelegazna Posted June 9, 2006 Report Posted June 9, 2006 I read the first paragraph of this thread and wondered, "How much farther down the thread until we hear, "How dare it not be Akron?!?!"Answer: Second paragraph.I basically second everything CK says. This is no recruiting coup. Quote
