a-zip
It's July. Any word on JD and KD contracts? We have lost a ton of good people already, what is the deal?
ziptrumpet87
I think they were busy getting LP's contract done first. As long as he stays, things look good for the university.

TXZipFan
Well after we win the MAC again this year we'd better lock JD up with the biggest contract in MAC history. Especially if we're serious about taking this program to another level, he's the key to doing so. I mean so far he's taken a program that was pretty unknown around the country, and we are now regarded by many BCS schools as a pretty solid mid-major to schedule. To take it to the next level we must win the MAC convincingly and win our bowl game and do even better in 2007. JD is the key to keeping this ball rolling and to keep him here we're going to have to shell out some cash. Although it may seem like we don't have that kind of money, wouldn't you think after back-to-back MAC championships and bowl appearances that we would be creating some kind of revenue boost??? If the reason there's not much of a revenue boost because of the size of the Motorcity Bowl than we have to pray that JD sticks aroun til 2008 when I think we'll have our best shot at being the next Utah and going to a BCS bowl. THEN let's pay the man like UCF paid O'Leary and keep him here for good.NOW the chances of all that happening might seem far fetched but check out our schedule in 2008 and the recruiting classes keep getting better and better, and so does the team. It's quite possible we could make a BCS bowl in 2008, BUT it's definitely not as possible w/o JD. SO SIGN THIS GUY ALREADY!!!
KingZip
From the sound of it the money seems to be flowing pretty well on campus. No real reason why the contract for JD has not been done. What you may be seeing here is a rub between Brookhart and the new boss. JD is not Rhodes' hire and such he may not want to extend himself too much thinking that JD is out the door after another big season. Same goes for Keith. Is there another rational explanation as to why Rhodes would promise a contract in January and have it not done by July?

Earlier this year an e-mail was sent to all employees "suggesting" the low single digit increases in wages for the next year. Remember tuition increases have been astronomical for the past umpteen years and the Trustees are still screaming about lack of funds. Zipsrifle
Though I agree that JD and KD get new contracts, I doubt they will be for huge sums of money. Honestly folks, if a decent BCS School comes calling, JD is gone no matter what the money is. He's got goals in life and I'm sure coaching a National Championship team or being an NFL coach is on that list. Remember, this is the guy who gave up a 6 figure salary and was begging to coach for free just so he could be close to football. He's not gonna stick around at Akron for the money. I think the news that the U is doing everything in it's power to keep LP is the biggest news since last season's bowl game! I've said it before, LP is the type of guy that will put the entire city of Akron on his back and drag it to bigger and better things. I still think we should name the new stadium after the guy. Balki Bartokomous
OH THANK GOD. I was worried that LP wasn't getting enough money. Now hopefuly he will raise tuition again. I LOVE paying a whole bunch for shit I never use. Christ, this campus and every other campus is run like this country is. Whats that? Gas prices and everything else are breaking you? Well piss off junior, they are going to get higher. Now if you need me, i'll be getting a big raise. Hey LP ... FU.
gozips19
what the hell is your problem LP hasn't taken a raise is years and still isn't the highest pres in the mac... hell the new pres at Can't makes more than him and he has done more for the university than the past 10 presidents! state schools only operate on 24% of funds from the state so they have to raise fees from time to time. you think these buildings just grow from the ground! just be happy that we have a great university and a great pres dick hole! I went to Akron during the Peggy Gordon Elliot era, the darkest days in Akron history. I know what presidents make is a lot, but given the impact Proenza has had on Akron, he has repaid us 10 fold. At times you wonder what the president does but Akron is night and day with Proenza in charge vs when Peggy was there.

If most students didn't have to work a shit ton to afford to go to school, they would get more out of it. Learning is a lot easier when you aren't dead tired. and what is this "raise fees from time to time" shit. It is every damn year. EVERY YEAR. It is going to get to the point where you have to be rich to go to college or it won't be worth it. Nothing like starting off a post school life so far in debt that you're only motivation for working is to keep paying it off. You can go back to sucking LP off now. gozips19
you just don't get it! every college has issues like this. just be happy that our school kicks ass now and we have a great president. we all worked in college but we also had lots of fun after all its college! i am sorry to the rest of the board for getting off track but i am very proud of what my school has accomplished in the past 7-10 yrs now back to the original thread i think some of the comments on the board my have some weight to it as JD and KD aren't MAC's guys but if he's smart (and we are all hoping he is) he sign them to extensions asap. there also is the theory that the deals are done but are pushed to the back burner for other contracts and new coach searches. either way i hope we can keep both of these coaches for as long as possible!
