UAZip0510
Just received an offer from the University of Akron!— Samir Sehic (@samirsehic)8:47 PM - 14 May 2014He's listed as a 6'9", 250 lb PF. ESPN and Scout both rate him as a three star prospect. Plenty of other teams interested but the Zips seem to be pursuing aggressively. Here is his Verbal Commits profile.
Dave in Green
UAZip0510, you and I must think alike. I just noticed this offer on Verbal Commits a couple of hours ago and didn't mention it because I thought it was a bit of a stretch offer, not that that's a bad thing. I like seeing the Zips offering players like this in addition to the 2-star recruits that are more likely to end up at MAC schools. You never know when you're going to hit another Zeke. Scout.com also shows that there's interest from the likes of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Stanford among majors. Verbal Commits also shows some other players that the Zips have offered recently. The Zips have focused on their biggest need (PGs) this year, but will need to start thinking about replacing bigs next season and beyond. Balsy
(I know I'm just spit-balling this) but I'd imagine a new arena would help in the Recruiting process.
Quickzips
Reported offers from Iowa and Houston now as well. Definitely feels like an offer intended to find a replacement for Treadwell. We're going to be awful thin at PF going into 2015. Early playing time for a solid program could be tempting for some PFs who might not have otherwise considered Akron that strongly. Dave in Green
It looks like Houston has become a hot recruiting area for the Zips. Samir's Cypress Woods HS plays in the same Texas 5A Region III District 17 as Antino's Cypress Springs HS. This season Antino was the second leading scorer (19.2 ppg) in the league and Samir fifth (18.0 ppg). Samir was the leading rebounder (13.3 rpg). LZIp
I do not think we will be thin at all at PF in 2015 with Kretz and Cheatham.
Dave in Green
Tree's rebounding and inside scoring will not be easy to replace when he leaves at the end of this season. While Jake has shown that he can back up Tree at the 4 for short minutes, he's more of a wing than a PF. Kwan is also more of a wing who's yet to show that he's as comfortable in the paint as he is on the perimeter. Ideally you'd want to have at least one of next season's recruits be a quality PF with a strong inside game. The Zips are pretty well stocked at the other positions for the next few seasons.
