I know this was mentioned in another thread, but I thought it deserves its own thread. So far only Jake Kretzer(#20) is the only Zip to make the top 25. They are now down to the 7th best player. So far Can't State has three guys on the list(#13,#18) and BGSU has 3 guys(#7,#12). I have to believe that Tree will show up on this list soon. With that said, how is it possible that the Zips are picked to win the MAC east? With all that talent, shouldn't Bugs and Can't be the top teams in the east?

Hilltopper, I think that's been the nature of this program for quite some time. There's never really been any stars in recent memory. Maybe the closest thing would be Romeo, Woods, Zeke, or maybe Diggs or Tree? I can't think of any others remotely close to fitting a "standout player" profile.

Just thinking....has any guy in the Dambrot era ever reached 15ppg, or been a double/double guy with any consistency? Or, handed out 10 assists with any regularity?

I think most people would agree that the depth of talent has gotten us to this point, and not having a few standout players.

But yes, on the surface, you would expect the top team to get more recognition than that.

Look at the roster. The only player that really has a complaint here is Reggie (I'm assuming that Tree will show up on the list soon, of course).

The team is full is promising talent that hasn't proven anything yet. Only Tree, Kretzer, and Nyles Evans averaged more than 20 minutes last season.

I like guys who play with a chip on their shoulder. Beside, I'm tired of arguments about football. It's time for some arguments about basketball.

Damn right, HT!

No argument Skip, but if you look at the players on that list most of them didn't exactly set the world on fire last year either.

I hear ya. By the looks of it, they are merely "predicting" who will be the best players. So, they can pick whoever they want, and naturally, as history repeats itself, they just neglect Akron. Or, their MAC knowledge is suspect.

They sure nailed every aspect of Tree's game, rightfully pointing out his major weakness at the free throw line. While you really want your leading scorer and rebounder on the floor late in a close game, other teams on the Zips schedule will look at Tree's miserable 2-10 free throw performance in his senior season opener and start planning their hack-a-Tree foul strategy.
