GP1 Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/spor...es/15223184.htmI was sitting at Dilly's yesterday on Triplett Blvd. getting a burger and hot dog when I saw a bunch of vans starting to pull up at the Rubber Bowl. I just figured they were maintenance people getting back from a late lunch or something. I had no idea they were setting up for practice on the lower grass area by the runway.I like this idea. First, it forces humility on the players. Second, there are now three classes of Zips who have no idea how bad it used to be to go to the Rubber Bowl for practice every day. They now know what the Seniors on the team had to go through when they were younger and it is something they can all now relate to together. Both the seniors and younger players should not forget where the come from, and it wasn't that long ago that they did not have that beautiful field (inside and outside) to hold practice. I'm not certain they should go there every day, but once is a good reminder. Quote
Zip Watcher Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Channel 3 covered this on the 11PM news last night also. Not a huge story, but they devoted about as much time to the Zips (w/ a JD interview) as they did to the Suckeyes w/ a Tressel interview. On segment I know, but it was a nice start. Quote
Dr Z Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Good idea JD. Another article on the subject (click here)I like this line from the BJ article:Once practice began, the Zips, wearing helmets and no other pads, looked crisp, especially senior quarterback Luke Getsy. He appears to have added about 10 pounds of muscle to his 6-foot-2, 220-pound frame Quote
AZipsCrazy Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Looks like somebody else put on weight as well... remember how skinny Hakes looked in the Spring Game? I just saw this photo on his facebook.QB Hakes PhotoI couldn't get the picture to load onto the page so if somebody else knows how to do it feel free. Heard through a buddy in the program he weighed in at 220 at one point this summer. Props to Coach Bailey for getting the team in great shape. Quote

TXZipFan Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Thanks zippyrifle... DAMN he looks alot bigger, those coaches must have had those boys busting their butt this offseason. More importantly Getsy put on 10 lbs of muscle. Bravo! Quote
UAZips Posted August 8, 2006 Report Posted August 8, 2006 Caught about a half hour of practice from the Student Union today between classes. The offense looked pretty good. Quote
