USA Today re: Akron attendance

If we had a new stadium we wouldn't have this problem, this is just another example of why we need another successful season. We got that ball rolling no let's just keep it going.
Actually, I'm hoping this attendance issue lights a fire under this administration, and the stadium project gets a little higher on the priority list. Akron football will never last in the rubber bowl.

I don't support the buy a ticket even if you don't go policy. What a waste of money.
Buying Cleveland Browns tickets, and not using them, is a waste of money. Some may say that is is also a waste of money if you DO use them...but I digress. The Browns hardly miss any season ticket holder who doesn't renew. There are hundreds of fans waiting in line to buy your Browns ducats regardless of how horrid their product is. And, there are no critical attendance criteria of any concern to an NFL team. The University of Akron football team needs income. It needs 15,000 attendance every other year. It is NOT a waste of money to pay for Zips tickets you may/may not use because supporting the team in this manor is critical to it's success. If you care about Zips football, you shell out the $50.00 and buy a ticket. Otherwise, don't bitch when we get out-recruited by another team with bigger resources. You want to continue beating Big East schools for talent, it ain't free. You want to keep JD? It ain't free. You want to keep 1-A status? It ain't free. Buy a ticket for Zips football, whether you might miss a game or two, or attend all of them.

Couldn't agree more. Great post -- Except for kicking the Browns around part.Seems to me, that everyone on Zipsnation should have at least one season ticket especially at $55. That small investment/donation will go a long way in helping our football program. We just have to step up.I was wondering how the Family Season ticket plan actually counts towards attendence. Does anyone know ? I went a different route -- getting 2 season tickets and 2 Zippy Club passes. This is more expensive but you have access to the other sports for the kids. Not really sure how those count towards attendence. Another question to throw out there - Last year, it seemed like the NCAA was worried about actual attendence - butts in the seats/stadium rather then just ticket sales. Has this changed or is the rule a combination of the two ?

If schools do not meet the requirement this season, they will receive a letter of non compliance which triggers a 10-YEAR PERIOD DURING WHICH TIME THEY MUST MEET THE REQUIREMENT OR BE PLACED ON RESTRICTED MEMBERSHIP. THAT WOULD RESTRICT THEM FROM BOWL OPPORTUNITIES,"Should they get placed in restricted membership they would have to correct the deficiency the following year orf else they would lose their status as a Div-1 institution," Christianson said.
Does some one understand this? I don't think I fully do. Does it mean that if we don't hit 15 thou this year, we must for ten straight years? And what if we don't? We lose D1A status? Or we are just "restricted" from bowls? And what does that mean? Barred from bowls, or only "restricted" from certain ones?

When I said Toledo playing OSU at Browns stadium is brilliant, everyone scoffed at it. BG is brilliant too. So what if the other team has more fans? Toledo and BG will have the last laugh when they are meeting attendance, and we, a sanctioned team, are still begging people to come to the rubber bowl. Whoever does the scheduling needs to get off the crack and start figuring something out because that is the determinig factor besides winning.

I agree this is a cheaters way of making it! Hopefully after another successful season we won't have to resort to such tactics to get people to come to Akron games. With that being said, our 1A stats is on the line, whether some of you want to admit it or not, and we need to come up with some creative ways to maintain our standing especially since we are becoming more competitive.
