Akron's team this year is possibly the most talented in school history. This is not the team Penn State fans remember.
Howdy Zips!! Most of us have a lot of ROOspect for the direction in which your team is headed. And while it's fair enough for you to point out the lack of comparison between this time and the last time our teams met, it's also fair for me to point out that the Lions of this year and last are not the Lions of the few years before (I refuse to remember any more detail than that!). During that time the Lions suffered a devastating spinal injury to a well-liked, dare I say loved, member of the team along with the loss of JoePa's brother George.I've been watching my team since '78 and I can tell you that I have NEVER seen a PSU team as down, unprepared and mentally defeated as it was during that time. JoePA totally lost his winning edge and almost acted like he was a grandparent rather than a coach. The lack of discipline and preparation in the Bowl game against Auburn is a prime example.Rest assured those days are over and Joe is back where he was in '99 and previous years. So what does all that mean? Just that this is going to be a great game between two teams on the way up who both believe they can win. It might as well be the first meeting between the Lions and the Zips because the past is dead.My biased prediction? PSU 35 Zips 10 Weather doesn't matter.Good luck Zips. Here's to no injuries and safe travel to those who are visiting Happy Valley.

Lititzlion, thanks for the thoiughtful post. Hopefully our respective programs don't look back. Good luck to the Lions and Zips for a hard fought game featuring great offense, defense and a lack of injury timeouts. Having a good team is new to us, but I think we have a team that will surprise many in Happy valley.

PSU football is about honesty, integrity and respect. Those are values that JoePa demands from his players, and occasionally he has demanded it from PSU students and fans. I think some of the posts by PSU fans on this forum are being honest, but being misinterpreted as being disrespectful. Sometimes you have to keep your mouth shut to be respectful – even when you open your mouth while being honest. I might have even been interrupted as being disrespectful the other day in a post, but I was only being honest. Note that in my previous post that I did not predict a score to the game. I just discussed a number of game “factors.” If I was honest about what I thought the score was going to be, I definitely know that it would have been interpreted as being disrespectful. So I didn’t do that. I wish all the best to Akron on Saturday. If I had my way PSU would win tomorrow and Akron would win every game the rest of its season. I am a PSU fan after all. And if Akron does well, it makes PSU look better. I take this to an extreme sometimes. I watched the Temple-Buffalo game last night, knowing that PSU plays Temple in the next to last game of the season. I also know that Temple is one of the worst Div 1A teams in football. I was pulling for Temple only because State will play Temple. I want State to play the best teams possible. Oh well, you can’t always get what you want. To be honest, but not disrespectful, but I am sure Temple fans would find it disrespectful – Buffalo fans as well, I think I am going to see a higher caliber high school football game tonight than the Temple game last night. I wouldn’t post that on a Temple forum though. (Wait, Temple doesn’t have a forum, they can’t read and write) Opps, that was being disrespectful. :) Go State, Beat Roos

Wow, what a beautiful post. It brings a tear to my eye. You see, perhaps the Penn State fans shouldn't have pointed it out, but it's true: They are going to absolutely kill us and we are poor saps living in a dreamworld if we think this game will be anything but an abject beat-down, with PSU pulling their starters before halftime, just like a couple years ago. It's the integrity and somlemnity of JoePa, however, that allows for such a magnanimous gesture like the post above and permeates throughout PSU fandom. May God Bless you, TheSkyIsBlueAndWhite!

Sorry, I used to hold Joe Pa in high regard. Not anymore. Not with seeing him run down refs like an idiot, and hearing sarcastic remarks he makes about other teams. He just runs up and down the sidelines and yells at people now. I don't even believe he coaches anymore. No headsets????He may end up like Woody Hayes. Having to get fired tarnishing his legacy, rather than leaving on his own terms.

Heck, I hope I can walk when I'm his age. As far as his remarks about other teams: that's just his Brooklyn sense of humor. He can dish it out and he can take it. Besides, you have to like: (Joe Paterno to Kirk Herbstreit), "It's nice to finally meet somebody from Ohio State that speaks English."

Okay, you didn't get it. But, I'll use our words - "poor saps living in a dreamworld" Must be true. You wrote it, not me. Joe probably won't pull the starters in the second quarter because they need experience together. Not to play Akron, but to play ND next week. Unfortunately, Akron is the loser in the scenario, since pulling out the starters keeps the score reasonable. I'll give two score predictions:Joe pulls the starters in 2nd quarter: 42-12Joe lets them play: 63-3Either way, it is an "abject beat-down". Honestly, I have nothing against Akron. I want your program to do well.

What a joke. 63-3 if Joe lets them play. Go to Rivals.com and check out the quality tha is going into Akron and PSU. There is a big, big difference. The score will be over 70 whether Joe lets them play or not. Maybe Akron will be able to score. There's two different quality teams here. It starts with the fans. Akron that averages less than 15k per game and about ready to be bounced to Div 1AA and PSU that will have 107,000+ tomorrow.Akron will be deafened by PSU fans, Blinded by PSU speed, and left speechless by the score. 84-0.

Now, I grant you, there's been some hopefull (and perhaps a tad blind) enthusiasm with UA fans, but these predictions are so embarassing (for you) that I promise you wont show your face around here tomorrow evening unless you can whip up some bullshit like "Oh, you know we were just trash talking" to defend your outrageous posts and not have to stick your tail between your legs. 84-0?

Well, I guess I wasn't TOO far off. Can I be gracious without being patronizing? The zips gave us a few worried moments. Your run defense is, ahem, more than adequate. Great game and I hope you guys run the table. Kennedy is a stud and Getsy looks better than Brady Quinn right now.

A few selected quotes from others at PSU. Hunt didn't run over us, Joe didn't pull his starters and the wild blowout predictions didn't come true. With a little more discipline and tighter pass defense, the game could have been much more interesting from our perspective. Good win to PSU. We needed to not have many miscues and didn't succeed in that department.

Memphis and NIU had the #1 and #2 rushing offenses because.... get this... the defenses they played were not very good.  How do you think Akron would have done against the likes of OSU's Defense last year?  How do you think Memphis or NIU would have done?  My bet is they wouldn't have rushed for a COMBINED 100yds.
Really? So when Wolfe ran all over #4 (at the time) ranked in the country "big" ten team Michigan last year what's the excuse???He averaged 8.7 yards on 17 carries for 148 yardsJust lucky against a big ten defense you say?How about another "big" ten team? How do you like 245 yards on a big ten defense?Yeah, your right, he just played some bad defenses. :thumb:Stay tuned for some more...
Like I said all week, the Zips faced better running teams last year than PSU.Penn State had only 76 yards rushing, and 42 of that came on a reverseHunt finished with 36. Incase you were wondering how Wolfe would fair against that nasty OSU defense,he had 171 yards rushing and 114 yards receiving yesterday. :thumb:
