i go to panini's and they had the osu game on the speakers, i bitch and they turn music up, i bitch again and got my way. I had to talk to the manager to get them to make the AKron game on the speakers. It's sad. this is Akron, not Columbus. But I was happy after they put osu on the side tvs, This is Akron. So I go to the Barley house right after, What do i see???? OSU balloons in the front and the workers all have OSU jerseys on. I gave the waitress hell because she was an Akron student. She told me the owner was an OSU alumni. To hell with him and to hell with OSU, I'll put him out of business soon. I'm starting an Akron revolution. Forget about the Buckeyes, Go ZIPS! To hell with the buckeyes. People might say I'm jealous, no, I'm just pissed. This is Akron, not Columbus.

You should have gone to the Winking Lizard. It was OK, with both games getting on big screens. I you wanted to hear the Akron game, you sat near the TV the game was being played on. Same for OSU. What disturbs me most about the whole Panini's thing is that it is located 1/2 mile from Akron's campus and there were still more OSU fans there? Our marketing department need to get to work right away.

Well, I made them switch the Akron game to most of the TVs, and turn the sound up for it. I had to talk to the manager a couple times about this. She did this after I made her realize there was a big Akron crowd and only one OSU loser sitting by himself at the bar. This loser would yell out loud on purpose if OSU did anything like get a first down. He was really pissed about the whole sound thing because he was bitching to the manager too. He ended up sitting at one of the side tvs that have their own volume. The thing that pissed me off was the Barley House. OSU balloons in the front and every worker wearing OSU jerseys. If I purchase a bar in the near future, I'll never let stupid stuff like that happen. Anyone could go anywhere for an OSU game, but for a real Akron atmosphere, my place will be the place for Akron fans to go.btw, $1 drafts really F'd me up. I had 14 of them ($18 tab) and around 5 or 6 rum n cokes at the Barley House. What a night.

yep. things turned out ok after all... a little team-bitching and they got things right. i saw that guy sitting by himself over on the side by the bathrooms. I was very very amused because when the zips scored their first touchdown we were screaming and giving high fives and from that point on he yelled at anything osu did even though they were up 28-3 at that point.:lol: P.S. The dollar drafts got us too...final tab was funny though 37 beer o/t month @ $1.00 = $37.00. of course that was between 3 of us...GO ZIPS!

I agree with the opinion that if someone advertised themselves as having an Akron party, that they better be showing the Akron game on the main TV's. But aside from that, the bars are going to do what's better for business. If putting the OSU game on the main TV is what's better for business, that's what they should do...and that's what I'd do too. They are running a business...if there was really a demand to see Akron on TV, they'd put it on TV. Sounds like the Winking Lizard had the best plan....both games on big TVs. Akron just hasn't caught people's attention yet this year, especially the casual fan. They didn't even do it last year until they won the MAC Title game and made it to the Bowl game. It sucks, but it's the truth. I saw some people predicting a sold out Rubber Bowl for the first home game...and while I want to believe that will happen, it just won't in my opinion. They need to win next week and start a run to grab people's attention, and might have a chance of getting the city's attention once they realize it's a championship quality team. Again, if you want to start a revolution, go ahead...see how successful you are. See how many people aside from the diehard Akron fans here even notice Akron has a game when OSU battles Texas next week. See how many people listen to you when you consistenly badmouth OSU and their fans for no apparent reason. I understand your frustration...the local team - a very good team - is getting outshined by OSU. And while I disagree with your notion that people shouldnt cheer for OSU as a #2, I agree that there should be far more support for Akron, and the supreme loyalty should go to them. But that's not going to change by you starting a revolution...or by you bashing OSU and their fans without reason (that actually makes us look bad...)...it'll happen when the Zips have another great season this year...and again next year...and the following. It will happen when they prove to people that they are a high caliber program, and that last year wasn't a one time. thing. So be patient...go to the Winking Lizard...have respect for other fans...drink your $1 drafts...and cheer on the Zips. Because THEY are the only ones that can change anything.

I'm glad you undestand my frustration. But I don't think you understood the previous post when I complained about Panini's having the OSU game as the highlighted game when there was clearly more Akron fans than OSU fans. I'd say 23 Akron fans vs 3 OSU fans. We had to give management hell about getting the Akron game on most of the TV's and for sound. What was good for Panini's business that day was to have the Akron game as the highlighted game. They clearly didn't care about their business until I gave them hell.I feel like we are a minority in Akron, that's why I'm all about this revolution idea. I hate seeing people treat Akron, OH like it's the Buckeyes town. What about the Zips?? Hey sgm, your welcome to come with us to Panini's on Saturday. The Akron game is at 1, the OSU game is on at 8. There shouldn't be any conflict

I forgot the OSU game was at night. We need to get everybody we can to go to Panini's for the game. Bobbyake, do you think you could set up an event on Facebook to go to Panini's? There are now 344 members in the group, so it is a safe bet that at least 20 of them will show up. Wouldn't it be awesome if more people showed up for the Akron game than for OSU?

If there were more Akron people at Panini's - especially at that ratio - then that was just a silly move by management. Maybe they planned an OSU party expecting more Buckeyes fans and were too stubborn to change it...?? Either way, bad move by them. Next week is a great opportunity to get people out. Most people don't get ESPN U, so they'll have to go somewhere to watch the game. And Ohio State-Texas is a night game...I definitely forgot about that. The facebook thing would be a great idea...those event invites are money...they really get people's attention.

sgm, you have to understand that a lot of Akron fans are frustrated with this area's perception of the Zips. We feel like we're second class. And we're treated like second class. The whole Panini's thing was an expample. I had to fight to get the Akron game on most of the tvs with sound. I know you love OSU, but they really give us Akron fans a challenge when all we see is OSU all over the place. Like the barley house last night. I know this doesn't piss you off, but it does me. I'm a diehard Akron fan. I'm not saying your not, but when your made second class in your home town, you get a little fired up.

I love the Zips, and I see nothing wrong with liking another team too. I am a diehard Northwestern fan; they are my second team. What is wrong is when more people in a college's hometown root for somebody else instead of the local team, even if the local team is sucessful. Sgm, are you a Browns fan? If so, then you must be fed up by how there are what seems like more Steelers fans in Cleveland than Browns fans. In my first week of school this semester, I saw more students wearing OSU stuff than Akron stuff. It made me sick. I actually went up to someone and offered to buy him TWO Akron shirts if he promised not to wear an OSU shirt on campus for the rest of the semester. He asked why he should support a "baby school". You see, Akron is considered second class even by many of it's students. I'm sure that kid wouldv't loved to be a student at THE only college in Ohio, but couldn't afford tuition to such an "Elite" school.

I do understand the frustration. I guess my point is this...is a t-shirt like that really going to change anything? And isn't the real fight against bar owners and the media not giving the same amount of attention...not OSU fans? To get a bigger following, Zips fans need to draw attention...but only positive attention. If I saw someone wearing a t-shirt like the one described, I'd think they were a bitter, jealous fan. And if I didn't know what I know - that Akron has some amazing fans - I might stereotype that person as the average Zips fan...just like you did with the example of the kid on campus. We need POSITIVE attention. Large crowds at games, bars, etc that are not only loud and proud, but also respectful. Banners at tailgates, like the one RowdyZip talked about making. Facebook/Myspace groups that get the word out even more. Maybe Rasor could do a write up in the Buchtellite, or an ad in the paper...or maybe someone could go up to WZIP and find out what kind of promotions they could do through them. Heck, maybe someone could even find a way to get t-shirts made. As a casual fan that knew nothing about Zips Nation, I'd look at things like these and think, "Man...they have some great fans." Don't rip down other schools for no reason. Don't put down other teams fans, or wear t-shirts that say derogatory things...that's crap that Can't State does. Do you really want local media outlets to talk about Akron fans the way they did Can't after last year's MAC Tourney? Talking about how vulgar they were...talking about how disrespectful they were. Do you want that perception as well?Take pride in your team. Support them at games, bars, etc. Wear Zips gear when you go out. And be a respectful and classy fan...stop worrying about trying to rip down OSU and their fans, and start worrying about how to get Akron the positive attention that they so desperately need in moving forward to becoming a truly great university.

Until our own freaking paper gives UA attention, I don't see the bars doing it.Their is one way to make the bars do it. That is to start winning and keep winning. We were 1 game over 500 last year. Let's beat NCSU, Cincy, etc. They will be forced to recognize the Zips. Businesses cater to their clients. If 80% want OSU and only 20% want UA, they will show OSU. It is business. They aren't going to force their customers to go elsewhere to watch what they want.Too many people still look at UA as DII. They wonder if we will be playing in the Pioneer Bowl.

SGM - you are so AWESOME! That is exactly what Akron needs...POSITIVE fans. I love this board and the Zips fans on here, but we need to stop bitching and envying other schools and do everything we can to bring respect to our teams.
