zipboy
I was planning to hit Johnny Malloys but got a late start. Fortunately, Paninis in Sagamore had the game. I had the whole bar (6 or so other people) pulling for us at the end.Thoughts on the game1. THANK YOU AKRON! I almost cried after this one. After years of hearing comments like "Mt Union could beat Akron", and "What division are you guys?" and "Come on, whatt team do you really like?" we finally got our signature win. The 2nd biggest win in Zips history after MACC last year.2. David Harvey is our lone deep play threat. We do a great job controlling the time and tempo of the game. It would be nice to get some quick play strikes. Great game by Harvey.3. Who else do you want with the ball at the end other that Getsy? We are so fortunate to have him. I worry about the drop off next year, but am not worrying for 3 more months.4. We simply were more athletic and better coached than NC State. Seeing Nate Robinson hop skip and jump in their endzone after about the 10th 3 and out in a row for NCSU was priceless. For the first 3 quarters our D was suffocating. We just have better players. Our D seriously has got to be a top 30 D in the nation.5. Nice unsung game by Mark Groza. He had 8 tackles and really gave some valuable minutes. 6. Another nice game by Andre Jones and the whole secondary. Grant, Stokes, everyone stepped up.7. Kicking game is our achilles heal. I don't have a lot of faith in the kicking game now. I think Stec will turn the corner soon. He made a couple bigtime punts when it counted. I worry more about our placekicker.8. Kennedy was a man today. Great effort. Line blocked better. Not many plays for negative yardage.9. Is Kasparek double covered or what? And when will Jabari have a breakout game?10. I like Harvey returning punts instead of Jones. 11. FEAR US! LosAngelesZipFan
Besides the penalties and sudden lack of focus/killer instinct, I am also a bit concerned about halftime adjustment-- Trestman (remember him from the Browns back in '80s?) seemed to make some great adjustments at half time and their offense performed much better as a result. If we made adjustments, it didn't do anything for us other than keep us bottled up making punts from our endzone much of the 2nd half--anyone else notice this? I don't remember what the story was last year in this regard...any thoughts?
GP1
4. We simply were more athletic and better coached than NC State. Best point yet about the game yesterday. For those of you who were not there or didn't get to see the game, there was no difference in size and speed between the two teams. The best player on the field was #22 for State, but that is about where the best of list stops for them. Kennedy, Getsy and others were better than what they had on the field.Another headline for the game in the paper could have been, "Zips Almost Blow Game Against Inferior Team". Honest to God guys, we are really that talented this year. The talent alone could make them the best team in school history, but time will tell us whether they can keep it together or not. I believe they can.

GP1
^ you really don't know what you're talking about. Stop kidding yourself about the "talent" State has. There isn't much. Maybe your d-line was more athletic than our o-line, but that is where it ends. Our receivers made big play after big play on your defense like they were standing still, especially when it counted.Kennedy got around the corner at will on your defense.Your fat ass o-line was too slow for our defensive line. How do you think we stopped you guys on fourth and one late.Your linebackers couldn't crack an egg.Your QB is at best a waste of a scholarship.Your best player is #22 (a future NFL RB).As far as coaching, Chuck is a joke and the only reason he still has a job is because he went to school there. JD was calling the right plays at the right time against your soft defense. If you blitzed inside, we had a play called to run outside.State would have trouble winning the MAC this year with that garbage you put on the field. It's a good thing the ACC schedule is starting so you can win some games against D-1 teams.

I worry about the drop off next year, but am not worrying for 3 more months. I'm not sure about our immediate backups for next year, but I'm hopeful that Sean Hakes, a true freshman who won 2 Texas State Championships in their top division (albeit for private schools) and was born in Dublin, Ohio (on the doorstep of Ohio State), will step in and make Ohio State, Michigan, and others regret that they didn't recruit him. Hakes will have a great chance to prove himself when we play OSU next season. Wouldn't it be awesome if he was better than whoever OSU has as their new QB?
