Our RPI would have been higher with a win at Kent (it certainly would not have ben lower). Yep, as I made mention in another thread, the reason our RPI improved is because our OOC SOS greatly improved over the weekend. Since February 18th, Akron OOC opponents are 12-4. This includes Iona getting an RPI top 50 win over Monmouth. Of note our RPI may have improved over the weekend, but our Kenpom fell from ~65 to 77. Our RPI actually moved UP after this weekend. I saw it. It was irrelevant. I feel relatively confident that our RPI would not be worse had we won. Or because losing games means we aren't playing good basketball? Or both? The point I was making was related to the difference in seed. There's still a few weeks to right the ship. Regardless of how we're playing, I'd rather face a 5 seed than a 3.
skip-zip
tolbob.....Kreed already pointed something out in another thread. Sorry missed it, but a number of teams that we've beaten won games over the last few days, which has helped us actually elevate our national standing. The point is, there's a lot of other factors that will go into our final seeding, including how others are performing. Assuming that a loss by a particular team will automatically result in a lower seeding 3 weeks from now is just not true. There's a lot of factors at play here. The NCAA has stated that it tries to "protect" top 4 seeds in the tourney. This is why we played Gonzaga in Portland and Notre Dame in Chicago in the past. Playing a 5 seed, however, means they probably will have no geographic advantage and neutral crowds generally pull for the underdog. I don't worry too much about any differences between 13, 14, and even 15 seeds. At that point it is more about how you match up style-wise with your opponent than it is about how good each possible opponent might be. They are all going to be pretty darn good. For what its worth, I still think the best draw Akron ever got in its NCAA tournament appearances was Notre Dame and that was a 2 vs.15 matchup.
