A poster reported that one of the football coaches hinted that YSU may be on the 2005 football schedule. Since the schedule is pretty much complete out to 2010 this got me to wondering.

The only likely game of 2005 to be dropped would be the home game against North Texas State. Now NTSU is a pretty fair opponent. Dropping that game for the likes of YSU must mean that the game against NTSU in 2007 on the road is being replaced with a much tougher road opponent.

I had heard from an excellent university connected source that TWO future opponents for near term future games were in the works. Due to the caliber of these opponents (I know who they are) the deal will be a two for one as the Zips WANT home games against major schools.

Look for the home-n-home against Utah State (about equal to playing Buffalo) to go bye-bye as well.

This is entirely speculation on my part.

Any thoughts?

Why YSU? Because it is a slam dunk, no doubt, 100% guaranteed, gimme, 23K+ attendance game @ the Rubber Bowl. That's the only reason.

Personally, I would like to wax their ass once, just to shut them up. All YSU fans are quick to point out their "recent" dominance of Akron..."recent" being Gerry Faust's teams and Owens' teams with Faust leftovers. Wax their ass 52-3 and cancel the series forever. That would be swell.

Like you, I don't like listing my "sources." All I can say is...you know how the team drove down to YSU last summer on their own dime and practiced 7-on-7? They were requested not to do that this season due to pending scheduling of YSU. Fair enough explanation?

I love that we are doing the 2 for 1 if we can get it. Hopefully this won't be at Browns stadium either but a bonafide home game. I realize that you have to give a certain guarantee to get a 2 for 1. But I hated the excuses when asked, football and bball that it did not make sense because you end up on the road all the time. Hipsher always said that. When you play 0 for 1 against a different team each year, what is the difference?

As for YSU, maybe this is a classic type game and we will have 12 games that year. We still need 5 home games against D1 teams. Maybe the Zips are in the Patriot Classic that year against a military school at Browns stadium and that "counts" as a home game so YSU can still replace North Texas.
