TXZipFan
Spring games are not the same as opening up against tosu next year.I also find it a little ironic that if CJ were going to start next year they would give him some playing time. BUT they aren't and it might be a sign that they aren't happy with either CJ's progression and they're just going to play Luke because nobody else is close to him right now.I just read your post and I think you might have a point, because if he was going to be the guy next year he would be getting way more PT. C'mon guys we are spectators, JD's not stupid he knows what he's doing and if CJ was going to be the guy marching our Zips into Slow-lumbus next season he would be giving him more reps... right??? C'mon guys we are spectators, JD's not stupid he knows what he's doing and if CJ was going to be the guy marching our Zips into Slow-lumbus next season he would be giving him more reps... right??? Consider what you just said....that CJ isn't getting reps b/c JD knows what he's doing and obviosuly CJ won't be the one taking Luke's job next year. Nobody BUT Luke has gotten reps this season. Luke isn't going to be here next year. If CJ isn't taking reps b/c he's not getting the job next year, noone else has gotten reps, and Luke isn't going to be here next year, you are saying we won't HAVE a QB next year. Someone has to do it. CJ or not, someone should be taking reps.
TXZipFan
Ballingirl I agree with you I think CJ should be getting reps IF he's gonna be the starter next year. BUT the reality is, he hasn't gotten reps even with us getting blown out by Can't and blowing out North Texas... so it's not a matter of should he get reps (because he should), but why isn't he??? I am saying that maybe AZipsCrazy might be right... JD isn't worried about getting CJ playing time because JD might be leaning towards Hakes being Lukes replacement next year. I know that's thinking way too far ahead, but to be honest I don't see any other reason why CJ wouldn't be getting PT. I'm not in disagreement with you, I just think we might be asking the wrong question here.

You have a starting QB with zero game snaps and two backups with the same experience. Suppose Hakes gets hurt or is not the answer. If the CJ's have an opportunity to play this year, they should get it. I hope that opportunity comes in the fourth quarter with UA comfortably ahead. It makes no sense to not get one or both some playing time. I'm saying if the opportunity presents itself, not when the game is on the line. Good coaches do these things and we have lost two chances (IMO) to improve the team. This may seem trivial to some, but it's the attention to detail that makes the difference. TXZipFan
You just echoed what I was saying... I think he should get time regardless. BUT I was just trying to figure out why JD would not be giving him the reps... maybe I am putting too much faith in JD. I just have to think there's some kind of reasoning to the way he's handled this situation.
Ballingirl
I don't care who the Qb is next year, CJ or Hakes, neither of them are getting playing time. I was simply stating that regardless of WHO the QB will be next year, SOMEBODY needs to get some time. We would hope that JD knows what he's doing, but in all reality, there are a lot of good guys leaving the team this year. It would not surprise me if JD leaves at the end of the year also. With JD giving up 6 figures to start coaching football in the volunteer position, it is obvious he wants to go far in this position. If he gets an offer from anywhere else that is even barely above Akron, he'll take it.
AZipsCrazy
Whoa now... lets not get ahead of ourselves, JD is NOT LEAVING after this year. To be honest with the poor discipline this team has shown, he still has alot to prove before he's offered a better job than he's got. Sure he beat N.C. State but he hasn't really beaten anyone else. I get what you're saying about the QB's somebody needs to be getting playing time, but the reality of the situation is JD (for whatever reason) has decided not to give anyone playing time. I don't know why, but he's got to have a reason.
Ballingirl
I just don't want to see them get to next year and have a QB with NO game experience. Raw talent can only take you so far, and let's be honest, practice experience is nowhere near what game situations are like. No matter what is past reasons have been, he needs, at some point, to start preparing for next season while finishing this one strong. I guarantee if our backup QB sees meaningful minutes the remainder of this season, we will not be going to a bowl game. Barring injury or a blow out, Luke should continue to get all snaps. Buffalo and Bowling Green should be good opportunities for CJ to get some snaps. I don't see it happening @ Toledo.
