AS far as i can tell LOSING THe WAD and his clan of workers is our biggest loss thus far.i hope this marketing group does have any more dumb givaway plans.
No it isn't. They were nice people, but just more of the same billboard buyers and newspaper add buyers we saw here for the past 20 years. They also had more than their share of give away programs as well. There was actually a decline in season ticket holders for football during their time. If the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior.....well, we would still be in the same boat we are now.....someone who cut his teeth at Virginia buying billboards and newspaper adds resulting in half empty stadiums or full of people who didn't pay to get in and us bitching about it. It goes on, and on, and on, and on.........One thing they were really good at though was self promotion. And we can continue this discussion further if anyone wishes.

GP1. That makes too much sense. It would never happen. You would think someone at the top would bring in a "real" marketing executive from the outside as in from a business not from another university. :iws:
They probably could not afford to do so. A really good marketing executive probably makes much more than either JD or KD.

Dear Marketing Department:I just had a thought, a perfect way for you to introduce a fantastic team to it's home fan base. Beware, however because this will involve spending a small of money. Don't be afraid, it will pay much more dividends than your current strategy of doing absolutely nothing. That being said, I'd like to introduce you to one of my favorite movies of all time, Major League. I would like to explain one of my favorite quotes to you from the movie, as it's obvious that none of you have seen it because of your lack of general knowledge of sports. At one point, early in the season, the Cleveland Indians (that's right, the movie is about a team from CLEVELAND!) make a television advertisement to promote themselves. Now at this point, I'm sure your saying, "TV!!! We can't afford THAT!" Contrary, local advertisements are very affordable on cable television. Now back to the quote: "Hi, we're the Cleveland Indians, and a lot of you don't know us, but we're a Major League Baseball team." My request is a simple team shot, lined up in front of the seats at the JAR with coach Dambrot holding a baskeball in front of a smiling team saying, "Hi, we're the Akron Zips, a lot of you don't know us, but we're a GOOD Division 1 basketball team." Now before you fret too much about cost, remember this: it takes spending money to make money. We all look forward to you developing and affinity for sports promotion.Sincerely,RowdyZip and The ZipsNation  GO ZIPS!
 I love it.GP, to go back to what you are said is not entirely correct about the same people doing the same things. People who "get it" can succeed in any market because they do their research to understand their customer and how to reach them most effectively. It's an ingenious concept that i think we can all agree on.

Winning brings people and sells tickets. Not ads, or giveaways of dolls and rags, nor any other BS.Commissions cannot be paid out at State Institutions. You cannot give out tickets to kids who are in high school and you cannot give them to people with the intent that they be give to the kids. That is an NCAA violation.Perhaps some of you who have all the answers should quit your multi-million dollar jobs and help us out. You seem to have all of the answers. Here is a tip, if it seems to be so totally clear what should be done then there is probably a good reason why people over a 20 year span have not done it.

You cannot give out tickets to kids who are in high school and you cannot give them to people with the intent that they be give to the kids. That is an NCAA violation.do you mean that you cant donate tickets to people who are going to distribute them?I am a youth football coach and i asked the university if they would be willing to donate some tickets so that i can talk the kids from my team to a game, and they never replied and completely ignored my email and questions reguarding tickets. I then talked to a friend of mine who plays for Can't state and he talked to their ticket office and they donated a large number of tickets to me for the Can't and akron football game. that is one thing that is nice about Can't, they are willing to donate tickets to youth organizations for kids who parents otherwise wouldnt be able to afford them. Akron doesnt do things like that, and im sorry but i just dont think its fair that youth miss out because their parents dont have the money to take them to these events (football, basketball, soccer or any of the events) I also coach youth basketball and was thinking about asking Can't if they would be willing to donate some for my basketball team because im sure they wouldnt mind, unlike akron!

YOu can't be serious when you say you like those promotions.I'm not sure if anyone has had an opportunity to visit the Taylor Direct Marketing Institute in the Polsky Building -- it's really impressive. With the amount of students pursuing business degrees at Akron and marketing degrees in general -- what would it hurt to put them to work through an interactive class? Don't give them ideas or pointers either -- let them go at it with a clean slate. My best guess is the students in the CBA could come up with some ideas that would benefit this program immensly.

The only promotion I like is letting the kids get in free when they wear their jersey.Other than that...$5,000 shooting contest? I'll bet they have to make the shot from the Olin Hall faculty parking lot.Dance clinic? I don't know, if it gets the kids involved...fine. I don't see people beating the doors down because of this one either.Seems they could do better.
