Zip Watcher
This season's Zips team will probably go down as the best DI Zips ever .....Until next year.Long way to go this season still. Enjoy the ride.
Valpo Zip
I think it is too early to worry about next year while we are in the middle of what might be the best season ever in zips basketball history. But since you started it, i am not worried about next year at all. We will have a lot of talent and leadership in 4 seniors in Quade, J-wood, Dials and Cedrick. Add to that a lot of size in Bardo and Sweich. You add Chris McKnight and Linhart and you have a great team.It is the following year that might be a rebuilding team, with Linhart, Conyers and Rybak being the seniors. skip-zip
I agree. I don't think next year will be that bad, but the year after will be difficult unless the next two freshman classes are great. But keep in mind....Romeo and Dru are the leaders of this team. They are the guys we turn to when the game is on the line. And we lose BOTH of them next year. I'm not concerned about having good players next year, but I am concerned about us having leaders. I hope some guys start to step into that role before the end of this season.I'm especially afraid of that point guard position. We all saw what can happen in the Buffalo game when Dru is off the court for extended periods of time. It was probably the worst game we played this year at home. BirdZip
After Akron goes to the Final Four this year, recruiting should be a lot easier so we shoudln't have to worry.I agree that the big question for next year is point guard. Who is going to be the thinking man? I think the loss of Romeo won't be as bad as it may initially seem, especially from a leadershiop standpoint. Your emotional leadership can come from Wood's leave it all on the floor play and Ced's scoring ability. Also, the fact that we are so balanced from a scoring standpoint keeps any big scoring hit from being an issue.
hoopla
If we thrive on Woods 'leave it all out on the floor play' next year we will be lucky to hit 15 wins. He doesnt play hard at all. Only at times when he has the ball does he want to play. Next year isnt going to be a good year for the zips at all. And I dont know if anyone here has heard the latest on the rumor mill, but I heard that Dials is done after this year. Is there anyone out there that is close to him or something and can confirm this? I heard he will be graduating soon and will be leaving.with Romeo, Dru, Dials gone I would say we dont have a backbone to stand on as far as leadership. Valpo Zip
I never heard of Dials leaving, and it doesn't make any sense to me at all. Why would he do that ? playing on a successful team and getting additional exposure can only help him whether he wants to play over seas or go towards sports management (Rick Mcfadden) or even become a high school coach. About the leadership, Cedrick is the man next year and J-wood is not bad either... he is currently not on the spot because Dru and Romeo are ahead of him, next year is a different story. Why would a guy that busted his ass as much as he did to get on the court walk away from it with a year's eligibility remaining? If he truely was considering it, someone should tell him the real world sucks. It's a lot more fun to play basketball and go to college than it is to sit in a cubicle and create Excel spreadsheets. Trust me on that one. He'd also be letting KD and the team down. They need him next season.I don't see the Dials departure scenario playing out. The Hip Zip
I agree that its not yet time to think about next season, however since you brought it up I think that the '07-'08 Zips team will be very, very good. Do not under estimate the impact Chris McKnight will bring to the floor when his minutes will increase. This kid has a real presence on both ends of the floor with a pretty nice stroke to boot. I think that everybody will be surprised at just how good Chris can become.
