UAZipster0305
Sounds like something I was advocating for a few months ago! I think it would work out great for both MLS and UA.
TXZipFan
HaHa I came across that article and thought the EXACT same thing... it would be a great thing for both parties!!! Just imagine UA having the stadium Wolstein had drawn up already, combine the funds together and bring alot of business and help Akron have an elite facility that even the Buckeyes could be jealous of. (looks and technology wise not so much size or tradition). If we had a field that was similar to what Wolstein had drawn up which was like 60 or 50k seats and a crazy modern design, we could quickly become a "hot" school to play for. The recruiting and excitement around the team would be insane!!!
Balki Bartokomous
good lord I hope the new stadium wouldn't be 60K seats. how terrible will that look when 5/6ths or more of it is empty. remember what Cleveland Municipal Stadium looked like when the Indians played there? skip-zip
I know Balki. 25,000 would be sufficient.
Blue & Gold
I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm hoping for 30K. I think that we'll draw significantly better as soon as we move into a new facility. The Rubberbowl, God love her, is actually a repelant as far as fans are concerned. A new facility will be a draw in itself - see Canal Park. Plus, I love SMU's new stadium, and it seats 30K. I wish we'd just clone it. It is perfect. timmyboy
Has anyone heard bout the new soccer stadium they want to build (not sure if that is who wolstein is or not) in northern summit county (macedonia)? why not have akron get into talks with them an have then put in some of the money an then akron use their 54 million budget an build the 30,000 seat stadium they wanted, it can be multi purpose with the football and soccer field. that way they wouldnt have to add more taxes to things like cigarettes, food an all that other stuff. He (Bart WolstEIn)passed away very unfortunately in 2004 (5?). He had an agreement with MLS to put an expansion team in NE Ohio, if he could build the soccer-specific stadium they demanded.Akron admin would NOT be interested in a stadium project off-campus, and MLS will never accept a stadium that is not primarily under control of their club (parking and concessioan revenue, etc.). I can't help wondering how Dick Tomey feels about having a 23k seat stadium for his Spartans. How long before the soccerhaters take over this thread, like the past one(s)?
