Zipsrifle Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Read the columns at gozips.com. Either the D has made some HUGE improvements or the Offense is sputtering. I fear the latter. Seven posessions with field goal attempts! Second team O was "disappointing". If we're going to come out of the gate and shock Penn State, we better be doing a little better. I really hope that the D has made a HUGE improvement. Was it me or did LO sugar coat everything! Hell, I thought that we had all the bases covered for every game. At least JD isn't keeping us entirely in the dark. We'll have to see till the first game to determine how much he is sugar coating the situation. Quote
Guest Guest_racer Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 i agree zipsrifle. i have seen this to many times with lo.how the defense has improved over last year. we heard this year after year until he was gone. hopefully they have but they need to prove it on the feild. the good thing about the first game is we should have a good idea how competitive we wil be against marshall, miami, ect. Captain Kangaroo Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 The only things I got out of the scrimmage are: It sucks that David Lee Anne Morgan and his boss have no clue how to cover the Zips. They should be there every day reporting on the team. I couldn't know less about this year's Zips team. The little info you get from GoZips.com is fine...but that's all I can say. It is hard to generate any banter on this board, because I have no idea what's going on with the Zips. Will we win at Penn State? Who the hell knows? I haven't seen the team compete since April, and won't see it until September. Weak local team coverage and closed practices flat-out suck. Quote
Z-Pouch Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 For what it is worth --- I was talking to a student who works in the athletic department by way of a chance meeting at a local store -- the old part time college job. He saw my hat and started talking Zips and the PSU opener -- he is going, I also will be there. But to the point, he was not that upbeat about their chances for a victory or keeping the game close. Maybe my optimism threw him off but he had several insightfull comments thru working in the department and being around the team. 1) Alot of concern over the WR's outside of Hixon 2) Starting RB -- Said should be Biggs, he has been very impressive but concerned 3) From 1 and 2 -- General offensive concerns ? 4) Secondary -- not good. as in not good period. May mean nothing but seemed to have some credibilty and may be a dose of some reality that none of us want to hear. It does seem to confirm some of the areas that are lacking and may not be progressing as quickly as everyone hopes. The other thing -- State College is not that far away and is a great place to see a game. We need to sell some more PSU tickets and get some fans out to this game. Sales are light ?? You will not regret the money spent, it is a great college game day experiance. And just maybe the Zips can give them a game making even better. Quote
Z-P Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 Yea, I agree with CK, it's hard this year to fire up. Is it just me (I think I sang this tune back in spring also) or is something radically different about the marketing and personal support FB is getting this year? Hey, I'm all on board, so don't get mad at what I'm saying.......it's just my observation. Examples.........here we are inside of 2 weeks to kickoff, and I just now get my Gridiron Club App in the mail. It used to come twice, once in June and once in July. Cripes, all I wanted to do was know where to send a little jack (I sold the Pinto with the XM and have some spare pocket change) and it took this long to find out where. I missed the golf outing (couldn't be helped) for the first time in 5 years, but reports coming back said the staff wasn't even there for most of it. Rave reviews on facilities, but other than Charlie working his ass of shaking hands, nothing else got mentioned about how the staff mingled. Shawn's still there isn't he? He used to do daily reports on GoZips. What are we getting now? Where is Tommy G with his reports? On the positive side, I've had my bumper sticker on my bumper (I bought a Mercur once the Pinto crapped out)......... and poster in the lawn since the spring game, and the Charlie for Hero campaign has been pretty darn good. I don't know.............I just don't get a warm fuzzy from JD and his posse like I did with LO and his gang. Yea, I agree...........screw warm fuzzies, because winning will take care of this bigtime, you're right............. but what if the wins aren't forthcoming for some reason? The downside risk of not doing the big PR exceeds the difficulty experienced in trying to get it done right. I think Marketing is wasting a lot of pent up good will here. Maybe it's just me however..........and if so tell me.............and I'll apologize for ragging on it. Quote
Guest Guest Posted August 24, 2004 Report Posted August 24, 2004 I think I speak for many when I say it's tough to sit here blindly. I have absolutely NO idea what to expect. I do know that every, every, every year I was excited about football because LO painted such a pretty picture....and almost every year I dropped about a mile by the end of the season. He was the eternal optimist, and I grew to completely resent it. I felt like I was being conned. Now I'll take a straight shooter over that any day. Live and learn. JD seems to be from the Lou Holtz, hand wringing, "we're not too good so don't expect too much" camp. And who knows? He might be right, and they do have a long way to go. But it seems he's the type who's never satisfied. Plus I'd rather have Penn State think we're patsys and come out for a picnic and then get hit blindsided, if that's possible. My biggest frustration is with the Beacon Urinal. Not really sure if it's DLM's fault or not, but it would be nice if SOMEBODY over there felt strongly about covering the Division I University just two blocks from their offices. Maybe driving down Exchange on their way to work and seeing the team out on the field will help, I don't know. Quote
