Zip_ME87 Posted Monday at 05:32 PM Report Posted Monday at 05:32 PM (edited) 24 shots and only 10 on goal. From what I recall at least 5 of those were directly at the GK’s body. Shots off target over the goal or wide; Dismal shooting. If I were a forward or attacking mid on a quality Zips program, I think I would ask my coaches for some recommendations of what to do to work on my shooting and go do so with my fellow forwards/AMs on our own in addition to that done in training with the coaches. Love these guys but beyond frustrated with the inability to make good shots when they do shoot. Edited Monday at 06:45 PM by Zip_ME87 1 Quote
Zippa Head Posted Monday at 05:42 PM Report Posted Monday at 05:42 PM Akron men's soccer is 9-1-4 through Oct 24, and its numbers are strong on volume but average on finishing. Metric Akron Akron opponents Benchmark (avg / good) Shots per game 17.4 8.0 PL-leading ~15.7 Shots on goal % 40.7% 42.9% ~33% / 40%+ Shot conversion 10.7% (26-243) 12.5% (14-112) ~10-11% / 13-15% Goals per shot on goal 26.3% (26-99) 29.2% (14-48) ~30-33% / 38%+ Volume is elite. Akron outshoots opponents more than 2 to 1, and its 17.4 shots per game is above the Premier League's top team. Accuracy is good. Hitting the target on 40.7% of shots meets the "good" mark. Finishing is the weak spot. Turning 26% of shots on goal into goals is below average. Three of the 26 goals were penalties. Defense is strong. Akron has allowed 1.00 goals per game, and the goalie has a 69.6% save percentage. Quick look and analysis of numbers 1 Quote
Zippa Head Posted Monday at 05:45 PM Report Posted Monday at 05:45 PM Akron ranks among the top 10 in shots per game, but I couldn't find a full D1 ranking for its goals or finishing. The NCAA stats pages are only partly readable, and the snapshots I got were a few days to a week old. Category Akron D1 rank (latest I found) Shots per game 17.2 at 12 games (17.4 now) 7th of ~200 Goals per game 1.86 Outside the top 10 (10th place is 2.50), exact rank unknown Goals allowed per game 1.00 Not found Here is the shots-per-game top 10 from that snapshot: Rank Team Shots/game 1 NJIT 19.64 2 UIC 18.75 3 Washington 18.00 4 La Salle 17.79 5 Grand Canyon 17.36 6 Cornell 17.18 7 Akron 17.17 8 (tie) Indiana, SMU, Stanford 17.00 The top 10 in goals per game is led by Georgetown (3.21), SMU (3.00), and UNC Asheville (3.00). Shot volume is elite. Akron is 7th, and two of the six teams above it have played only 11 or 12 games. Scoring is good but not elite. At 1.86 goals per game, Akron is likely somewhere in the top third or so, but that's my estimate, not a confirmed rank. Its 10.7% conversion is why it trails teams that shoot less. Defense is probably Akron's best asset, but I couldn't confirm a national rank for 1.00 goals against. For exact ranks, the NCAA's D1 men's soccer stats page (ncaa.com/stats/soccer-men/d1) has Scoring Offense, Shots per Game, and Goals Against Average. It loaded fine in search but wouldn't open for me directly. Quote
