Guest Zip88 Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Am I missing something here?? Breaking News in Beacon Journal today... Can't State is better than Akron and will finish ahead of Zips in MAC East race??? Here's the story and Can't State Schedule at bottom... Gary Eastwick did a Can't State write up today as well .. so he's probably the beat writer for Can't State but come on. There are no gimmes when the flushes play anyone with Cribbs or not. Are we really behind the Golden flushes with our program?? Comments???? THE MAC FROM TOP TO BOTTOM Sizing up the Mid-American Conference (in order of predicted finish): EAST DIVISION Marshall -- If quarterback Stan Hill is fully recovered from last season's knee injury, he should lead his team to the MAC Championship game. Miami -- Life in Oxford without Ben Roethlisberger starts with junior Josh Betts, who saw limited action last season. Can't State -- An improved secondary should help a pass defense that ranked last in the conference in 2003. Akron -- Charlie Frye's arm could make coach J.D. Brookhart's first year in Akron a lot smoother. Central Florida -- Coach George O'Leary will need more than one off-season to turn around the Knights, but it will happen. Ohio -- Say good-bye to the option offense, and hello to a new one-back spread offense. And to the defense, say good luck. Buffalo -- The Bulls can't get much worse after allowing four teams to score 40 or more points, and three to score more than 50. WEST DIVISION Toledo -- Quarterback Bruce Gradkowski and receiver Lance Moore connected 103 times for 1,194 yards as Moore led the nation in receptions. Northern Illinois -- High-powered offense leads effort as Huskies aim for third consecutive West Division title. Bowling Green -- Running back P.J. Pope and receiver Cole Magner topped 1,000 yards last season, but that was with now-departed quarterback Josh Harris, who ranked third in nation in total offense. Western Michigan -- Running game playing catch-up to passing. The quarterback competition between Blayne Baggett and Rutgers transfer Ryan Cubit is too close to call. Central Michigan -- MAC Freshman of the Year Jerry Seymour is back after an impressive 1,117-yard performance at running back. Ball State -- All-Conference safety Justin Beriault hopes to improve team's run defense but needs an undersized defensive line to do its part. Eastern Michigan -- Tailback Anthony Sherrell accounted for more than half of the Eagles' offense last season. GARY ESTWICK Here's the Can't State Schedule: 9/4 at Iowa 11 a.m. CT 9/11 LIBERTY 7 p.m. 9/18 at Rutgers 7 p.m. 9/23 AKRON 7 p.m. 10/2 at Central Michigan 1 p.m. 10/9 at Miami 2 p.m. 10/16 MARSHALL 4 p.m. 10/30 OHIO 4 p.m. 11/6 at Buffalo 1: 30 p.m. 11/13 EASTERN MICHIGAN 4 p.m. 11/23 at UCF 7 p.m. Quote

Z-Pouch Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 I read that this morning and was also pretty shocked  but he is the beat writer for Can't State and maybe the success in basketball has gone to his head. I have a hard time believing it is even a possiblity. But until we see what JD brings to the table, who knows ? All signs are good and Saturday is just around the corner Quote
