Zips4life
Board admins and leaders around here should get something organized. If there's anything that I've learned this weekend, it's that we have better fan support than I ever thought when we have a winning product. There's a lot of outraged people tonight. This is an opportunity to flex some serious Zips Nation muscle.
mrelegazna
No Division one team with more than 25 wins has EVER missed post season play. EVER!!! Do you have a cite for this, I'd love to be able to use it.
KNCLZip
Mack should be on the phones right now raising some serious hell. He should also be releasing a statement soon as to what the FUCK happened. The team and fans deserve as much. Not just Rhoades, but Proenza too. Seriously, this is deserving of his attention. Athletic exposure affects university exposure overall, including possibly hooking some high school students to apply and maybe drumming up donations. We got screwed out of more than just a basketball game. UA needs to get explanations from everyone involved--this includes the NCAA, the NIT committee of good ole boys helping each other out, and the MAC office. What did the MAC to to help us? Anything? I doubt the game was turned down. At very, very worst, I'm sure that our opponent, if lower seeded, would happily host. Not ideal for UA, but at least we'd play and have a chance to continue winning and make it to New York. If the game were turned down, then heads would need to roll in the JAR, but I doubt that very much.Indeed, the fans deserve a statement from Mack and/or Proenza. This is completely unacceptable. Even the ESPNU hacks said that we "should" have been in the NCAAs and would have if not for a fat-fingered clock operator and miracle shot that might not have even happened if time were kept correctly. How do we go from "should be in the NCAA" to not good enough for the NIT?
Magoo
I would seriously hope the University would not turn down a bid to the NIT. I would only be okay with turning down a bid if the players decided they did not want to participate. If they were snubbed, then this is a bad night for the MAC. The MAC and UA need to be on the phones tonight and tomorrow trying to get an explanation.

BirdZip
We are the WKYC Sports tonight poll question......They want to know if we deserved an NCAA bid.....WKYC Poll 4:1 say they deserved a spot so far...Doesn't really matter though. You know, no matter how many times I go back and look at the NIT bracket, we're still not there... GoZips88
Rasor just typed that from what he has hear Akron did not turn down the bid on his blog! Thanks Big Zip. It would be mind-boggling to me if they did but I couldn't tie the ESPN opening with the result (no bid).

Trumpetdaddy
From a Miami perspective, you guys definitely got jobbed, big time. This is horrible for the University of Akron, and for the MAC as a whole.Just more proof, as if any were really needed, that Chryst is abysmal. The fiasco after the game last night was pathetic enough, hanging both teams out to dry for ten minutes on national TV, and now this.I know I only speak for myself, and not RedHawk nation as a whole, but you fellas were seriously f*cked over. mcperp
You know what, F#$# the NIT too, just the used car lot of the pompous NCAA anyways. If the Zips actually did turn down an NIT bid then I can hardly blame them, why give the bastards their due. It's likely that if they weren't invited, then that will have more legs newswise than a game against Drexel or whoever. It'll be interesting to see if any coaches from other universities say anything about this whole atrocity. It will be nice to shine a light on the NCAA ogre and have someone investigate them for a change.
Zips fan
Lets see what the idiot committee members felt was worthy of an NIT bid.#1 Seed Mississippi Stthe committee guy stated RPI and Sagarin were factors-Akron is higher in both pollsthe committe guy stated road record-Mississippi was 3-9 on the road with a conference record of 8-8. Akron was 11-5 on the road and 13-3 in conference. I guess I can look at the numbers over and over and it will never make sense. They gave jobs to idiots who just express their opinions without the help of facts.
Big Zip
I don't think it has been mentioned yet, but a week ago the national pundits were talking about Stan Heath being fired after the season was over - a week later and Heath and Hipsher are dancing with a 12 seed. Talking about adding insult to injury! Ouch!
Captain Kangaroo
I love college athletics. It is probably my single-most non-family related thing in the world. For me, the college athletics that I've loved for about 35 years took a horrible and unexpected for the worse today. I'm appalled. How anyone can take a post season opportunity away from this Akron Zips team is unfathomable. Rick Chryst should be fired tomorrow. How can this happen...how... you am i
mrelegazna - found this by sportswriter stephen fontentet on the san antonio express-news website mysa.com: "no 26 win team has ever been left out [of the ncaa tournament] since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985." contact him and he should be able to give you the site. meatwad
Keep in mind that one of those 26 wins was against a non-D1 team (Tiffin). So to "committees" it looks like 25 wins.
brianwood@the2
Okay - long time zips fan, have lurked this site daily for a long time ... first time poster (can't stay on the sidelines any longer). I make it out of the Q last night without self combusting, come home flip on the DVR and watch the end of the game. I was so pissed off about the ineptitude of the end of game management by the officiating crew that I marched up to my computer, looked up the phone numbers of Rick Chryst and Rick Boyages (Director of BB ops for the MAC) and left them a piece of my mind about #1) being sackless & #2) rewarding the Simpson sisters (Lamont & Lamar) for their incompetance by assigning them the MAC championship game (my boy Lamont forced OT up at Can't with the phantom traveling call against Linhart at the end of reg). My wife heard me on the phone, jumped out of bed and pulled the phone cord out of the wall. I've actually felt kind of guilty all day for some of the things that I remember saying on their voicemail ... but after this absolute fiasco, I wish that I would have been a little more pointed. P.S. You can reach Chryst's voicemail through the directory and Boyage is kind enough to leave his cell # on his voicemail greeting

Zips fan
Here are some comments from one of the pundits out there who picks the NCAA tournament and NIT tournament.(3/11/07) This will be my final crack at the NCAA tournament (although I can't promise I won't have changes of heart between now and 5:55, so little changes are possible). The final NIT projection and bracket will be posted immediately after the NCAA selection show, which is on CBS at 6 Eastern. Make sure to tune in to ESPN 2 at 9 Eastern for the NIT selection show so you can see how your NIT hopeful squad fares. Good luck to all...4:24 PM: Purdue out of NCAA, Old Dominion in.6:43 PM: 63/65 NCAA teams correct... had Kansas St. and Syracuse in instead of Purdue and Stanford.7:26 PM: Final NIT bracket, along with a couple of minor seeding changes, is now up. Still may change my mind on things until 8:55, stay tuned.9:56: 37/40 NIT teams correct, one less than last year. They took San Diego St., Fresno St. and Hofstra over my Iowa, Washington, and Akron. Interesting to see that they didn't give any breaks to big conference teams this year, and I'm not quite sure what happened with Akron. The official final bracket is here. Stay tuned to the site throughout the National Invitation Tournament for analysis and news concerning all of the potential matchups, some of which should be up tomorrow for the earlier games. Zipgrad1990
Well I was never a fan of the NIT before the NCAA owned them and even less of a fan now. More or less it was something to watch if your team was snubbed from the NCAA tournament. It truely is all about the money with the NIT now.How come all year long we hear how important RPI is for both getting selected for the NCAA tournament and for the NIT and then when selection time comes the committees conviently ignore some teams with RPIs that should make it? This is especially true for the mid-majors.
