NCAA about money, not fair

Believe me, I am as upset as anyone about the basketball snub situation. It is time for all the mid-major schools to get together and state their cases in both football and basketball. They should create a mid-major BCS type system and use their collective power to align bowl games and maybe have their own ncaa tournament. Let's look at both football and basketball. The biggest task is to get scheduling fairness. How is it fair to have all the major schools play their non-conference games at home? FootballThe national champs U. of Florida played 12 regular season games last year. 7 were at home and 5 on the road. Conversely, the University of Akron played 5 games at home and 7 on the road. This creates an unfair advantage in college football. Why? Show me the money. The mid-majors should ban together and get the NCAA to pass a resolution stating that every team should play an equal number of home/away games. BasketballDrexel played 17 away games this year and 12 home games. Akron played 16 away games, 13 home games.Ohio State played 19 home games, 11 away games. How can a mid-major compete when it plays all its games away from home? Again, the NCAA should mandate that teams play an equal number of home/away games for each sport.

You know, this is a really good point. I got into an argument at work with a fella today over this. His comment: you cant expect the North Carolinas and Ohio States of the world to come play AT akron. Me: Why not?Him: because they dont play in small arenas, there are two different levels of college basketball, even if it is all div 1-a.Me: Could it be because they're afraid they could lose?Him: You think Akron could stay with North Carolina at the JAR?Me: I think Akron could stay with ANYONE at the JAR, and that's why they wont come here. And so on and so forth. I saw so many teams get into the field of 65 because of having 5-9 or 7-8 records against the rpi top 50. Do you think if the zips got a dozen games against the top 50, split between home and road that we couldnt win at least 5 of those? Give me a break, just because every time WE play a top 50 team it HAS to be on the road, makes it that much harder to get those "quality" wins. So if you schedule tough, at the end of the season they look at you and say, well they went 1-8 against the top 50. Oh, but Purdue went 6-8. Would they notice that all 9 of the 1-8 were on the road? Nah. It comes down to this: Schedule tough and be forced to play the majority of your games on the road. You'll have a moderate RPI, especially if you could win a couple. Selection committee will knock you out, however, because you have too many losses. The zips won 26(7) games this year. Their schedule was easy, with the exception of a few mac games and nevada/oru. We won the vast majority. Lost all games by a combined total of 22 points. Result: you didnt schedule TOUGH enough. The major conference bias is the most disgusting thing in the world. Moreso than the MLBPA and their oppostion to a salary cap.Can you tell me that the decline in mid-major at-large bids isnt directly related to the instances of teams like george mason last year. Major conferences are deathly afraid of the year that a "mid-major" wins the NCAA tournament. George Mason came closer than ever this year. The result the following year? The lowest amount of "mid-major" at-large selections in the last decade. 6. And two of those were locks because of their status in the top 25 before losing somewhere in their conference tournaments (SIU and Butler). Disgusting. Another fun point? Old Dominion and Butler (2 of the 6 "mid-major" at-larges) face eachother in the first round.Ok. rant over. hope you enjoyed.
