lets move to C-USA

They do get more respect, but only slightly. Honestly, I don't know if it is geographically feasible. The Big East would be a better fit, although we would have a much tougher time winning games in both basketball and football. It is a tough decision. I know that the MAC needs to balance out the divisions in football, C-USA seemingly gets better media coverage than the MAC. Leaving the MAC would have to coincide with the new football stadium being built. It's up to the athletic department, really. I can only hope that they make a good decision, whether it is staying in the MAC, becoming independent, or joining another conference.

I think moving to C-USA would be a huge mistake. First off, their basketball is ranked lower than the MAC. The only thing saving them is Memphis and who knows how long until the bolt for the Big East. Secondly, their football is on par with the MAC. This would be a lateral move at best. Next, we would lose our geographical rivalries. Finally, the travel expense to play Rice, SMU, Houston, and Tulane would bankrupt our budget. C-USA is not the answer, I don't know what is the answer but definitely not C-USA.

Do you seriously think that playing Rice. SMU and Tulane is not better than playing Toledo and CMU? You gotta be kidding, it does not matter how strong their teams are - those are big name schools with big time name recognition, and that's what really matters. As far as going Independant - NOT!We were independents when I was in school (1967-71). That really sucked. Not even an automatic bid of any kind available, and impossible to schedule quality opponents. As far the THE GAME, well when I watch it on replay, I count one one thousand two one thousand between the first touch and the clock starting. The miracle shot was taken at 1.2 seconds. THEREFORE, the clock was expired and Akron won! What a hosing!

unless you've heard something i haven't, neither c-usa or the big east has expressed even the slightest interest in having akron join.
From what i heard, they dont show interest in a school while it is in a conference already. The school applies to join the conference and then they review it and then make their decision. They dont go out looking for schools to join. I may be wrong, but that is what i was told.

I don't think C-USA is a good fit for Akron, plus it seems every few years that league sheds half its members and adds another 6 or so. For better or for worse, the MAC makes the most sense as if offers stability and the geographical rivalries. The league just doesn't have the cache, and will always be a mid-level conference with an upset over a major every once in awhile. At least you can always find a seat for any game.

C-USA is not the answer to our problems.Even if we move to a "larger" conference...we're going to have to perform better than we are now...unless you just want to be a dormat for a better conference. We've got to start consistently winning in the MAC and beating quality non-conference teams before we think about conference change.

I think that pretty much sums things up.You know that game we just lost vs. Miami? K.e.n.t. had won that game something like four of the last 8 years. Winning the MAC championship in basketball is not physically impossible. In fact, K.e.n.t. pretty much showed that if you field a solid team year in/year out, an NCAA bid is there for the taking. If you look at the status of the rest of the programs in the MAC, the Zips are in a great position to win 4 of the next 8 MAC championships. We need to stop going stone-cold offensively in the last 5 minutes of games at The Q. The Zips need to learn from this loss and move on. There's no reason we should be in the same, or better position to win a championship and get an NCAA berth next season.
