Copley guard Andrew Moss (6'2) has announced that he will be a preferred walk-on for the Zips.I seen Copley play on the television once this year, and from what i seen of this kid, he was pretty good. If he is able to improve on his ball handeling skills i could see him getting some decent playing time next year. Just more added depth for our run next year.

I believe Copley went 20-0 this season and lost in the second round of the state playoffs. I never saw him play personally, but if a team goes undefeated throughout the season you gotta be doing something right.

yeah they did go undefeated this year, before losing to a tough ST V team. had it not been for the sloopy play and the turnovers they could and would have eaisly beat them. but thats basketball, some days you are on and some days you are off.....thats just the way it goes.

I can't imagine a preferred walk on is going to take time away from McNees, Dials, Middleton, and Steward. I imagine he'll red shirt next year and work on his game.

In hoops, to date, that's pretty much been true. In football you can reference Ryan Myers as a "preferred walk on" that earned a scholarship and ended up in the NFL. There are many other "preferred walk ons" that have ended up with scholarships.The preferred walk on status is better than a general "walk on." It means the staff wants you on the team. That's better than the ordinary "intramural all star" that tries to make the squad during walk on try outs.

I guess I forgot, but Dru was a preferred walk-on. So I guess it can happen. If he takes playing time away from guys on the team already -- I think that is a good thing. There are times when a player gets overlooked and we can all hope this is one of those times.

Yep, Dru was a preferred walk-on knowing that he had a scholarship the following year, I don't think the other preferred walk-ons ever had that status....

if goddard had a better shot selection...other then getting the ball and just firing away, he would get a heck of alot more playing time. there are a few small things he needs to work on and he would be a very good player. Work more to create his shot, and not just get the ball and launch it from anywhere on the court. then he needs to work on his defense. if he were to do these things this summer... i can guarentee he would have alot more playing time then he had this year.

In the Beacon Journal today there is an article about the 20th annual Greater Akron Boys Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game. Andrew Moss scored 19 points in the game. The article also mentions him being a preferred walk-on for us.
