timmyboy Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 this is an interesting story. My brothers best friend is dating Joe's niece and he said that joe has told him a few diffrent times that this summer they are going to hang out an play basketball and he will give him some tips and pointers to improve his game. Of course he is young so he thinks he can take the "old" guy but he didnt lead the nation is scoring for nothing...he still has got game. Quote
Zip Watcher Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I have an acquaintance that played DI / DII college ball and who still kicks around in the men's leagues in Akron now and again. According to this guy, Joe was still the best baller in all of Akron even up to 2 years ago. I think he suffered an ACL or MCL injury a year or so ago .. but they say he still couldn't be stopped. blueandgold Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I see Joe quite a bit. I don't know him on a personal level, but he's a nice guy. He has a very nice family. His son plays on sports teams with my son. Quote
mcperp Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 That was a nice blast from the past. Joe was the 80's version of Adam Morrison. I can still see him at old Memorial Gym with his left elbow awkwardly angled as he jumped, legs going sideways, the ball looking like something Phil Niekro might have tossed and then swish! He had a mate on the team whose name escapes me (Rick Akins?), who was also a terrific 3 point shooter. Quote
RACER Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 we used to go to alott of high school games in the late 80's ,and lane was the best high school player i saw in that decade play in person. did lane lead the nba in rebounding one year?i know he did at pitt, but i thought he did one year in the nba also.
