Captain Kangaroo Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 Sept Column He is going to put up some monster numbers this year...he's the premiere back in NE Ohio...and he's in our own backyard. Let's see what JD and his crew can do regarding local recruiting! Quote
zff Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 This kid has got to be the #1 prospect for JD and staff. He is a huge talent and if he would come to Akron that could open the door for other huge talnts satying home. I know we got 3 rb's this year but he will be needed. Quote
zipsbandman Posted March 1, 2004 Report Posted March 1, 2004 If this kid is THAT good, then wouldn't he opt to go for a larger school like OSU, Michigan, etc? I'd say we would have a chance against other MAC schools though. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted March 2, 2004 Author Report Posted March 2, 2004 Sutton is around 5' 9"185lbs, which is small by Big 10 standards. That gives us a shot at him. His older brother Tony put up similar numbers at Hoban, and now plays for Wooster. I never understood why Owens didn't give him a shot. We shall see what JD does with local kids. He stated there will be plenty of Akron-area kids in the 2005 recruiting class. I don't think you'll ever stop the Vrabels and Antonio Winfields (Akron HS stars) from going to Big 10 schools, but if JD's good, he can convince the local kids that "hometown" Akron is a better avenue than BG, Toledo, Pitt, and other similar schools that have stolen Zips-level talent from under our noses for so long. Owens recruited mid-Ohio very well, but locally he was horrible. He simply didn't have the relationships with the local coaches. Additiona note: Jerrel Ringer has a brother(?) in the Dayton area that is tearing things up! I think he'll go BCS, but it'll be interesting to see if he at least considers the Zips. Quote
zff Posted March 19, 2004 Report Posted March 19, 2004 Hey Capn' There is an article on jjhuddle.com that talks to T Sutton. He sayd the Zips have offered him a full ride. I guess all they can do now is keep in touch and hope he wants to play at home. JJHuddle Link BTW, Jevon Ringer is Jerrel Ringers uncle. I heard French and the gang talking about it during last years spring game. Quote
GoZips Posted March 20, 2004 Report Posted March 20, 2004 ZFF writes: "There is an article on jjhuddle.com that talks to T Sutton. He says the Zips have offered him a full ride." I can confirm this. I was involved in a conversation with Lee Owens and two other people where Coach Owens stated that UA had offered Tyrell Sutton a full ride about 15 minutes after he became eligible by NCAA rules. Unless JD is a complete idiot (which I doubt) the offer still stands. In my estimation Sutton will move on from his Hoban blue and gold to UA blue and gold. JD is going to make the Zips a force and Sutton should be part of the equation. Quote
zff Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Sutton has been added to the rivals.com 2005 database. He is listing Akron and Can't as LOW interest of going there. Akron and Can't are the only two MAC schools listed the rest are Big Ten schools. Don't know if any of the big schools have offered. Penn State is on his list maybe he will be at the Akron Penn State game Sept 4th. I wonder if the Zips beat them if he changes his mind about Akron????? Quote
