Z-P Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Lessons we are learning 1. Superman can't do it all 2. Maybe the OL of Smith, Big Grez, Conrad etc of 3 years ago was a key reason for the success of that era......a guy once told me "you're thru your best period before you know you're in it"......how true 3. All the wishing and hoping in the world can't replace the learning curve the new staff will have to go thru. 4. Nothing is ever as bad or as good as it appears. I hope the cats all understand this, dust themselves off and kick ass at Can't State. 5. I watched the game on the tracker yesterday, so don't have first hand knowledge.....but it appeared that the guys just gave up??????? Is that true????? With the previous regime, I don't ever remember the team just giving up.....especially with Charlie at trigger..........Butchie neither........I hope this is not a symptom of what's to come. I'm still 150% Go Zips no matter what....... Your thoughts on lessons 3 games in? And still ILFSITF Quote
Guest ***GUEST_Zipper Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 I agree 100%, JD Brookhart is a joke. The football program is a disaster and if LO was still here we would at least have points on the board. The Akron administration did a poor job of selecting a new coach - a guy who had never been a head coach before. Instead we get more of the same piss poor results. I ain't going back until Akron hires a proven winner like Urban Meyer. Akron is going to get clocked by Can't State and when that happens the school should fire the leadership that put us in this mess. Quote
Guest Zipper67 Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 "Akron is going to get clocked by Can't State and when that happens the school should fire the leadership that put us in this mess. " Hey genius....they already did fire the leadership that put us in this mess....they are coaching at Ashland now....be patient and stop sounding like a moron, because that is all you are doing right now. old zip Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Frye's "Heismen" campaign, while already a stretch, would at least have been better under Owen's staff - 10 for 23 and 70somethin yards? Gimmie a break...I'll give the old staff one thing, they could at least put points on the board and make things interesting instead of getting completely clobbered with an inept offense. Quote
Z-P Posted September 19, 2004 Author Report Posted September 19, 2004 Whoa guyz............ Don't take me out of context please. I'm not bailing on the new regime, I'm just saying they should embrace what has been accomplished before, and work to carry it on.......not dis and dis-associate themselves from it...........OK? Go Zips!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Guest ***GUEST_Zipper Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 OLD ZIP IS RIGHT - THIS NEW BUNCH OF COACHES HAS GOT TO GO - RUN AFTER RUN AFTER RUN AND THE BEST PLAYER IN ZIP HISTORY REDUCED TO A HANDOFF MACHINE - LAST YEAR THE ZIP TEAM WAS A PLAY AWAY FROM WINNING AT WISCONSIN NOW THEY CANOT EVEN SCORE A POINT ON A MID-LEVEL VIRGINIA TEAM. AKRON FOOTBALL IS AT ITS LOWEST POINT EVER. BROOKHART IS A BUST Quote
zipper Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 You are a doofus. We should be 1-2 right now. Instead we are 0-3. At this time, we are off on our expected record by all of one game. I hope someone remembers several of us predicting - last fall - that our record wouldn't be too good this year. Let me remind you we were 7-5 last year WITH POSSIBLY THE EASIEST SCHEDULE IN THE ENTIRE DIVISION 1-A WORLD. We played TWO 1-AA teams. Our division crossover games were EMU and CMU - the two worst West Division teams, and remember, we had a little trouble at CMU at that. This year - Penn State and Virginia, and crossover games are NIU and Ball State and no patsy 1-AA teams. Please, Capital Z Zipper, promise me that when Brookhart makes good here at Akron you won't be around. You redefine the term "fair weather". As someone reminded me yesterday, Tressel was 2-9 in his first year at YSU. You probably would have fired him after one season. Brookhart gets three years. Not three games. Get a grip. Quote
2005PANTHER Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 I say we hang in there. We lost the first 3 games in which 2 of the teams were top teams..Let's see how the rest of the season goes. The coach just got here. Quote
zipsbandman Posted September 19, 2004 Report Posted September 19, 2004 Its really tough being a zip fan right now. We get crushed by Penn State a year after putting up a decent fight against a better Wisconsin Team. We can't even score against Virginia even with Superman, and we lose a game that we should win at home. PATHETIC! Now, we have to listen to stupid flush fans from Kan't State this week jabbering on how they are going to crush us with their pot head QB. And you know what? They are probably right! This is supposed to be our year of revenge. Are we really going in the right direction? Maybe JD should take his "visions" and start to show us something. We don't need to be winning every game, but geez, be somewhat competitive. Score points for crying out loud! Just a sign that the future will be bright. I see no positives right now. Show me something! Quote
zff Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Ok Here is a Brilliant thought Lets bring Owens and company back so we can still lose game but score points. Cause you know it just looks better to lose when you score points. Give me an F'ing break. I think I have finally figured this one out it is not the school, staff,or players that suck but the fans!!!!!! Now not all the fans but the fans who would rather have a losing coach back just so when he loses his teams at least score, instead of keeping a coach who in his first year loses his first three games. And two of the games are aganist BCS schools F'ing Stupid!!!!!! IN JD I STILL TRUST!!!!!!! Quote
Zipsrifle Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 Boy, all the naysayers are coming out of the woodwork now aren't they. I love it. Get rid of the football team and focus on Basketball? What crack are you smoking and can I have some! What makes the basketball team such a "Slam Dunk" right now that we didn't expect from the football team a month ago? Fire JD? OK, then who do we bring in to replace him? Certainly not LO. Lets say we bring in Jim Tressel. I guarantee that there would be calls to can his A$$ before the season is out too. Go ahead, try to change systems mid season with an athletically bare team and see what happens. This talk is rediculous. You think we're a laughing stock now, how do you think things would look if we fired our new MAC coach after 3 games, two of which were against BCS opponents? My next question is, if we were going to hire a former head coach, who would it be? We weren't going to snag any good ones that's or sure. JD was a mover and shaker and he was beating our door down from a successful Big East school. I still beleive he was the best pick. Thank God that you guys weren't some of this courntry's founding fathers. We'd all be paying Pounds to see our favorite Cricket match right now if that was the case. JD's job is secure for at least 2 more years IMO, so you can say whatever you want, but it ain't going to change anything. LO was 2-9 in his first AND 3rd year at Akron. Thomas will give JD time to prove his system and so would any other MAC Athletic director in the same spot. So, whine all you want, but unless we lose 9 games this year, nothing is going to change. Are we pathetic right now..yes. I actually think we are probably at our lowest ranking since joining DI-A (I remember being 108 out of 108 back in what, '94?) There are 117 teams now and according to the CCR, we're at 111. I'm sitting tight and going to be at all the remaining home games this season to see what I hope is the struggling beginning of a future powerhouse. I just hope that JD remembers how patient we were IF things become good. I hope he becomes a Bob Pruit, puts down some roots here and carries the Zips to bigger and better things. Alright guys, lets go beat up on the Golden flushes who are so boisterous and confident with their 1-2 record and win over DI-AA Liberty. Quote
dave_rickart Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 "mid-level Virginia team"? middle of what level? We're currently ranked 12th in the country (yeah, a bit too high, but...). When you say 'mid-level', you suggest we are 5th or 6th in our conference, and 40s/50s overall in Division I-A. I doubt the 50th best team in the country would hold you to 84 yards and zero points. Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted September 20, 2004 Report Posted September 20, 2004 I doubt the 50th best team in the country would hold you to 84 yards and zero points. Sadly, that is a very debatable point at this time. Quote
