Stadium Press Conference

Recommended Posts

About ticket prices:Akron football will remain one of the best sports entertainment values in Northeast Ohio. The new stadium will increase revenue through substantial increases in attendance, not ticket prices. Single-game ticket prices for seats not in the premium areas will remain consistent with current prices. Season ticket packages may incur modest increases, due in part to additional home games being played at the new stadium.----------------Damn. That is shaping up to be possibly the best deal in all of sports, period. I hope the community is able to recognize that.

Wow, it looks incredible. What a huge economic development engine UA is for the region-- just a tremendous asset for all of NEO. I hope this is the start of UA really becoming a focal point for sports fans in NEO, and by extension the entire U.Just went to the website-- they need to have an online giving link. I was ready to pony up a few hundred bucks online but there was no way to do it, and calling is a hassle.

Only problem is that he never mentioned what the Athletic Office's phone number was or what the website URL is.
I think he may have been referring to the site listed above (http://www.uakron.edu/stadium/)...looks like the "Stadium-Live" link at the top may be an active link once construction begins.
There is also a "Stadium Cam" in the left-hand portion of the page where the sponsors are listed.

Can someone in attendance shed some light on all the renderings that were on easles? There's only 7 shots on the web page, but it seemed like there were many more at the press conference.Would sure like to see all those renderings from HNTB.
I tried to get pics of them, but there were too many guys with suits blocking my view. I only got one picture that was relatively clear, It's not much, but it's all I have for now.I can't wait to watch the news tonight to see who picked up this story and who didn't. It will be a good barometer of which stations actually care about us.StadiumFlyer.jpg

The word I received on the way out of the press conference was that 9/12/2009 is realistic but assumes a VERY aggressive construction schedule. Negotiations will continue with owners of two lots on the southern perimeter but construction can begin on the vast majority of the project.Watch out for falling bricks at some point in the relatively near future elsewhere on campus unrelated to the new stadium project. Lots happening on campus and I'm jealous of what my kids are going to get to experience and enjoy in a few years.Nice to see Keith Dambrot and Gerry Faust in attendance. Nice crowd on hand.Mack mentioned that in addition to the 10,000 existing on-campus parking spots, there are an additional 7,000 spots a short shuttle ride away. The U of A also owns a couple of lots near the new stadium that could be turned into parking lots accommodating another 2,500 cars between the two of them.It was nice to see Mayor Don there ... oh, wait a minute, he had an important engagement in Cleveland and couldn't make it. He was hoping to send someone in his place ... but apparently that didn't work out either. Great things are happening in your city Mayor Don - ya outta think about putting your differences aside and being part of it.Exciting stuff that we are all going to be very proud of in a couple of years. Go Zips!!! :thumb:

UAkid:It's not a question of which station cares about us...it's a question of do they think their audience cares. My guess is yes. You'll see a reporter package, if not a live shot, on Channel 3.5 and 8 may not do a package, but will report it with an anchor voiceover, maybe even a soundbite. Of the two, Channel 8 has the best chance of doing a reporter package.19...who know...who cares. More people watch the security monitors at Chapel Hill. The announcement is big to us because we bleed blue & gold, but you have to keep the big picture in mind. And I'm very disappointed Mayor Don wasn't there. The guy knows how to hold a grudge, no doubt still angry about Quaker Square.

From what I have seen from the Local News Websites, only Channel 5 has any interest in the story. I'm sure Eric Mansfield (WKYC Channel 3) will eventually have something. I could care less about WOIO 19 they have been the worst news since the CBS/FOX switch. FOX 8 should probably have something but they will find some way to look dumb (skin flute anyone? LOL)Mayor Don will probably find a way to drag his sorry but to the ground breaking for the photo op. I am usually a big Plusquellic supporter but his complete apathy for the University the last couple months is quite appalling.

:D:bow::eek::thumb::rock::cheers:  SERIOUSLY nice looking drawings. If the real thing turns out as good, forget about being just the top stadium in the MAC this thing could rival most Big East Stadiums and even a few in the Big 10.My only complaint is that on some of the drawings that are only on ohio.com they have a picture of former Georgia Tech WR and current Detroit Lion Calvin Johnson. Whats up with that? Couldn't find a decent pick of any Zips WR's to put up there?
