Frye To Start Sunday

GP1

Recommended Posts

Frye will be starting Sunday against the Steelers. I am a Frye doubter, but he proved my prediction wrong that he couldn't beat out Anderson for the starting position. In my usually magnanimous way, I present this letter to Frye.Dear Charlie,In a battle between two midgets of NFL quarterbacking, you and Anderson, you have emerged the tallest midget. Congratulations!Best wishes,GP1

When I was at the game, they showed Frye on the screens, including pictures of him in a zips uniform and in browns uniform. Then some jackass about 10 rows behind me started yelling "Brad-eeee..... Brad-eeeee...."I normally have a tolerence for people's opinions, but I was actually starting out of my seat to go back there and physically disagree with him. Then I remembered three things that stopped me. 1) It is browns stadium, so I suppose shit like that is still relevant somehow :rolleyes:2) I always shake my head at morons who start fights at games :tomato: 3) I pictured myself in the 3rd district clink downtown

GP1...I was just about to commend you for being a man and admitting you were wrong. Then, I read your second comment. The fact is, we told you all along that he is Cleveland's best QB. The Anderson charade was all a smoke screen by the Browns, and you bought into it.Good luck with your career as a prognosticator from here forward. You've shown us all just how good you are at evaluating NFL talent.

The real joke is the people who actually believe Charlie Frye is the best QB on the Browns roster. Sure, he was named the starter - because it's better for Quinn in the long run to not play right away. But anyone who knows football and has seen both of those two under center that actually thinks Frye is the better QB is absolutely fooling themselves. I'm not a fan of Quinn...trust me...but Frye's simply keeping the seat warm for half a season until Quinn is ready. It says a lot about Frye when a career backup (Anderson) and a rookie with two preseason games under his belt (Quinn) almost (and probably should) start over him.

I've been watching football for 25 years. I guess I still dont' f'ing "know football".Once again, another opinionated arse can't be satisfied with stating their opinion. Instead, anyone who has a different one is "a joke" and "doesn't know football". Seen both under center? Not yet. If you think a few series in pre-season means anything, YOU don't don't know football.

I do apologize for the tone...it just peeves me that people but on "Zips blinders" in analyzing Frye. But I do sincerely apologize. With that said...I know the following:- That in 2 years, Charlie Frye is not much better now than he was in his first pro game. And that's not good. - That Derek Anderson performed just as well, if not better than Charlie Frye last year when starting.- That Derek Anderson is nothing more than a career backup.- That the last two notes say a lot about Charlie Frye as a pro QB. - That nobody has ever answered my question regarding Frye - What does he do especially well? - That Brady Quinn has more talent than any other QB on the Browns roster...and that it's not even close. - That the QB that gives the Browns the best chance to win ballgames is Brady Quinn, and that it'll only take half the season (if that) for them to realize it. I don't like BQ...at all. But I want wins for the Browns, and the best player at QB. And that's not C Frye.

I wouldn't say blinders. I would say, "rose colored glasses". Yes, I admit it.Because I watched Frye show such heart pulling of Montana like moments (such as the Marshall game), I really felt (feel) that he has the intangibles to be a very good NFL QB. I remember when people where scoffing that he would get drafted, or drafted the first day.I was wrong about a few things. I felt he could continue to elude blitzers and 'make plays' in the NFL like he did at Akron. For a while, I thought maybe it was because Romeo and Carthon were trying to force him to be a pocket passer, but after they let him go a bit, I realized that the NFL is just that much faster. Not just the speed of the rush, but also for defenders to catch up to "forced" passes.I still don't believe he should be warming a bench. I don't think he believes that either. But again, maybe its those rosey glasses.

I'm surprised sgm even came on here to comment. He's been on here since the Browns started practices in the spring, insisting over and over again that Derek Anderson should start. The Result? Anderson narrowly missed being cut, while Charlie Frye rose above all 4 contenders to become the starter. The Browns used Anderson as a smoke screen all along to push Charlie, and you bought into it. You liked the way Anderson played last year? Are you referring to his inability to lead us to ANY scores until garbage-time during the Steelers game? Or, his 4 interceptions against Tampa Bay? Take your pick. If this doesn't show you how far off you were on your "evaluation" of the Browns' quarterbacks, I can't help you.

I agree that Quinn is probaly going to be a better pro, but I would not allow him to see the field at all this year unless Charlie becomes injured. Frye is a good pro and will show this season that he can be very serviceable when surrounded by decent talent (Especially on the line). Anderson will be out of the league after this year. Quinn will be next year's starter and Frye will be his backup. In the unlikely event that Frye has a monster year, he will be traded for a second round choice and will start somewhere else (Ala Drew Brees from San Diego to New Orleans). This would be the best scenario for both he and the Browns since Cleveland no longer has a first round draft choice in 2008, and, it would probably mean that they had a successful season. The Browns will be improved, but their biggest glaring weekness is not at QB, it is the run defense (A patchwork of old guys and young, inexperienced, very little talent guys). This is not discussed much because the media, and average Joe Fan is only concerned with the quarterback position.

I am as much a of a Frye fan as there is. However, I am also a Browns fan.I know Frye is simply keeping the seat warm until Quinn is ready. You don't draft a QB that high and not plan on playing him.If hte Browns thought Frye was the guy, they never would have drafted Quinn.Hopefully Frye forces them into a Brees/Rivers situation like they had in San Diego. That would be great for Charlie.Unfortunately, I see Frye as a journeyman QB. I see him as having some good games thruout his career, but nothing more than a backup.

I agree. As a Browns fan, we will soon have to justify our all-eggs-in-one-basket gamble on draft day, and see what Quinn can do in the starting lineup. I hope it works. As for Charlie, his best place will be elsewhere when that happens. Because, unfortunately, when Quinn begins to take the same pounding that Frye has taken, the fans will demand another draft pick to come in and save the day, and not Charlie. Once again, Charlie has shown his guts and determination in the face of adversity. That had to be mentally draining, more than anything else, to persevere and win that starting job under the circumstances he's been put under this year.

Thanks to Thomas, Steinbach, and hopefully Bentley (somewhat of a longshot), I don't see this happening to Quinn. I think they finally got the OL thing figured out (Fingers crossed).

I'm already sick of that chant... oyMy season tickets are so pretty though. I guess I'll have to deal with the morons that don't wish to allow the boy, yeah he's still a boy, to develop into an nfl qb... it generally doesn't happen overnight.

With all that you "know" why don't you pick the winning lotto numbers, buy an island, and live happily ever after with gp1. Anderson, the "career" backup has played in 5 total games over his one year career. You don't know "s%#t" about either player. You "think" they are bad football players and you are entitled to your opinion. I think you're wrong and time will tell. Please stop confusing fact for opinion.

Actually, I still feel like Anderson is the better QB with far more upside. DA played just as well as Frye did in the preseason - problem is, he didn't outplay him, and the tie goes to the current starter. It's not that it matters...Quinn will be starting by midseason.

Derek Anderson was drafted in 2005...from 2005-Present is his CAREER...he has always been a BACKUP. So yes, he is a career backup to this point. Is that really that hard to follow?

sgm, the browns haven't had a QB that performed well on a consistent basis since ....... seems like FOREVER!!!We haven't had a offensive line since before Bernie Kosar (though it game him some protection some of his years as a brown)Couch couldn't survive here, and he was a first pick-first round draftee.I still don't think the browns have a very good line this year, but it's better. Bently is still injured and Joe Thomas was a first round pick, but VERY few rookie offensive linemen dominate in the NFL, even 1st round picks.Even so, I think Frye has about 4 games to prove that he can do something with better protection (even if he doesn't get much better protection).... time is running out. I'm not making excuses for him, but he (just like those before him) never got a fair shake.Even if he performs much better, Brady wont sit forever. It's just not gonna happen.

I understand the line has been bad...the running game has been inconsistent...the receivers have had drops. Anyone can see that Frye doesn't have a Pro Bowl lineup around him. But I also don't think that he is free of blame. And I think my second question is the most important. What does Charlie Frye do especially well?I've honestly asked it about 5-7 different times, and I've never received a response. And if nobody can come up with an answer, is he really a NFL starting caliber QB?

zen...it's not worth your time. I've wasted too much time on this guy already. I've explained FACTS to him as well, including how Charlie's QB rating is better than, or equal to, the QB ratings of the current starters in the NFL during their first 16 games as a starter. It's even better than Peyton Manning. If you couple this with Charlie's lack of a supporting cast, you can see that he's ahead of pace at this point in his career, compared to others at his position.I'm guessing that he would have cut Manning after about 2 seasons, if he follows the same logic he tries to use with Frye. This isn't a guarantee that Frye will continue to grow. But it's sure a good sign. However, our great ZipsNation NFL Scout-level talent evaluator somehow finds a way to draw a different conclusion.
