Captain Kangaroo
I'll give credit where credit's due -- I just got a nice hotel room for under $100.00 (for Friday night). Beats the hell out of the $350/nite, mandatory 2-nite stay policy @ Penn State last year.I will ask this - Anyone know of a decent place to tailgate prior to this week's game. All I hear are horror stories of Nazi-esque alcohol arrests. I want to have a couple beers prior to the game, grill something and walk to the stadium. Is it possible in Columbus? Haven't been there since the Zips game in '01 Captain, but when we were there, the "sanctioned" parties were in the hotel parking lots off Lane St, Ave, whatever. You just walk across the St. John parking lot to the shoe.I was flabergated at how High St had declined. It used to be so vibrant. No more "kegs and eggs" at Papa Joe's!Sad, very sad.

Standing around drinking overpriced draft beer with 1,000 drunks is a drag. Any "real" tailgate lots around?

I agree, but I hear they're really clamping down...open container anything...even a plastic cup and you're busted. That's why I mentioned the "sanctioned" thing...may be the only option. VictorSpoils
The truth is that you CAN tailgate but you should keep your beer in plastic cups so if there is passing security they won't notice. They tend to leave the older crowd alone and focus more on the student aged revelers. As long as you don't draw too much attention to yourself you'll be fine. I've tailgated plenty of times and had no problems. Also, the heat may be turned down on tailgaiters now that Karen Holbrook is no longer running the show. Just set up outside your car, make sure your cups aren't clear, and enjoy.
Cicero
High street and the surrounding area used to be a great atmosphere. The area and state overall has become so puritannical.
skip-zip
In defense of my friends who went to Penn State, Columbus does have a few more hotels than State College, PA.
