zipper
Gentlemen (and ladies, as they may be present here): We can vote on the new stadium at www.akron23.com I believe it is important for all of us to show the court of public opinion that we support this wholeheartedly. Apparently the results of this survey will be reported on the local PAX news this evening. Get out the vote! Go Zips!
Kangaroo Craig
The initial design looks good, but why not just spend a few more dollars and add seats in the end zone instead of casual seating. Then we would have something very similar in capacity to the Rubber Bowl, but much more modern and more importantly on campus. Can you imagine what that end zone casual seating would look like in the rain? What a muddy mess! Of course, no one sits there anyway unless the rest of the seats are full. I hope it moves forward soon. Another great recruiting tool right next door to the practice facility.

The "grass area seating" will comprise only about 10% of the total seating area. 2.) It will look awesome 3.) How much has the grass seating hurt Blossum Music Center...they get 10,000 people on their lawn every week during the summer? A blanket, on the lawn is a great way to spend an afternoon/evening watching football! Ever see Virginia's stadium up close? You'd love the grass...classy...collegiate campus-look. Kudos to the architect!!!
zipsbandman
I atually think the grass seating will give the stadium more of a college football atmosphere. I always thougt it was cool in stadiums. 20k is a great place to start. I would rather see a 20k sold out crowd at a new facility than 20k in the tavernous rubber bowl. You must be sitting near our section!!!

Kangaroo Craig
What is the minimum seating requirement for 1A. I thought it was 30,000. If the endzone area comprises 10% of the seats then they're going to still need to add some seats somewhere else. If the design calls for 20,000 plus an additional 3000 in club seats and luxury boxes, then they would need to be able to seat 7,000 between that end zone and standing room only. Might be possible. I am just afraid that the school is trying to take the cheapest approach possible. The JAR is not a bonifide D1 facility. It was originally designed for 12,000. They scaled it back to 7K in a cost saving measure. I know, you guys are going to say that it doesn't sell out anyway so that isn't a big deal, but nice facilities are a good recruiting tool. If JD is the real deal that I hope he is, then were going to wish we had the extra seating when we try to get duckets and they are not available. I just don't want to see them make the same mistake twice. The indoor practice facility is the best I have ever seen. Good start! Lets now build a large enough stadium to attract quality opponents and more importantly, quality athletes.
zipper
The previous requirement of a minimum 30,000—permanent seat stadium is no longer effective as of August, 1, 2004. Per the Knight Commission report. Wonder how many schools went out and increased their stadium sizes because of this (Buffalo is one, I believe). Kind of makes you wonder about the 15K rule, doesn't it?
Captain Kangaroo
I saw the PAX23 report on the stadium this evening. The report interviews focused on the 2 senior citizen families living in Spicertown and their concerns about being displaced!!?? No players, coaches, students, faculty, etc. interviewed. Small wonder I never watch that channel. The only things I learned were: 1.) Groundbreaking is planned in 2 years 2.) No student money is intended to be used for the project 3.) PAX 23 may be a worse news source than the Beacon
Guest Scott
Wow I can't believe this could actually be a reality. I've talked with several friends and they're all pretty psyched about this. I can't say I'm overwhelmed with the architectual drawings, however. I wish they could follow the old tire company factory type design with red brick. That would be classic. Akron has such a history and I wish they could build on that principle instead. This is an idea that could really help Akron's image. Imagine College Gameday at our campus!!! Scott in Cleveland
