Zipgrad1990 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Johnny Malloy's. I'm sure the staff will have their OSU shirts on, but apparently that is par for the course in Akron so I'll ignore it. At least the Buckeyes aren't on until 3:30 when hopefully the Zips game will have been over long enough to get out of there before the sea of scarlet and grey shows up! Quote
3rd&twenty Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Fairlawn Lizard, and hopefully the red doesn't start showing up until close to the end of the game. Quote
Zipgrad01 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Why don't you want OSU fans there? I guarantee that they will all be cheering for Akron. I went to the OSU - Texas game in Austin last year and OSU fans took over a tequila bar/southwestern restaurant called the Iron Cactus that was right on 6th street. OSU fans bitched at the bartender until they put the Akron-NC State game on and the whole place was going crazy during the 4th quarter. I felt like I was AMONG a bunch of Zips fans! You want them there and you want them to see us beat Indiana. That is how you get a secondary fan base. You are never going to pry these people away from being OSU fans, but some of these locals will find themselves going to Zips games if they see that the product is good. Besides....I will be watching the game in my basement on the 57" high definition tv drinking a freshly tapped keg out of my bar. Anyone is more than welcome. lol Quote
Zips Win! Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Posted on Sep 14 2007, 10:27 AM Why don't you want OSU fans there? I guarantee that they will all be cheering for Akron. Again, spoken like a shill for the Buckeye program. These people NEVER go to the Akron games, NEVER buy a ticket and NEVER buy/wear any Zips gear. They are worthless.Nice to see you traveled to Austin, TX. It's people like you who need to go away-Luckeye losers on our board. If you were a real Zips fan, you would have been AT the NC State game like I was. Go Away. Quote
w00t Posted September 14, 2007 Author Report Posted September 14, 2007 Go Away.Pure class. Also, I bow to your fan-dom. Quote
Ryno aka Menace Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Some fans are better than some fans at all. If my Zips have a bunch of secondary fans that is better than no fans at all. Quote
GoZips88 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 My son and two guys I work with will be at the Lizard in Fairlawn, most likely center-stage at the same table we were sitting at last week for the Akron/OSU game. Quote
w00t Posted September 14, 2007 Author Report Posted September 14, 2007 Tryon, isn't that the main street in downtown Charlotte? Quote
Zipgrad01 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Zips Win! .....kiss my ass douche bag. I am a season ticket holder for Akron and I go to Zips games. I have traveled to Annapolis, etc... to attend Zips football games. I went to the OSU game in Austin with a group of people to have a good time AND I also root for the Buckeyes. I really don't need your permission to tell me who to root for or what games to attend. I have been to both Akron games this year and I have taken 3 Buckeye fans that also now like the Zips to both games with me. FYI....I will be going to Los Angeles next year when OSU plays USC. It is a great time, a great atmosphere, and it will be a fun game. You telling me I am a shill for the Buckeyes program doesn't change my opinion one bit. It just makes you look like a crybaby loser.Anyway...why don't you just mind your own F'ing business about my sports endeavors because I can honestly give two shits about yours. I don't need pieces of shit like you telling me to go away or where I should spend my money. I also don't need YOU telling me what a "real fan" would do. So buzz off. Quote
scottditzen Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Can we also remember that no matter what team you route for, they are not pro atheletes but COLLEGE KIDS PLAYING A GAME. Damn, I am tired of Zips "fans" being so damn uncivil toward each other and opposing schools fans. This forum is a great great thing but wtf!!! You can pull for Akron without calling people out or denigrading others. Life is short people, take a deep breath, have a good time and chill. Quote
GP1 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Tryon, isn't that the main street in downtown Charlotte? It does run through downtown. Quote
Zipgrad1990 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Why don't you want OSU fans there? I guarantee that they will all be cheering for Akron. That is probably true, after all Indiana is a Big Ten Opponent to them. The only reason I don't want to see them is last week left a bad taste in my mouth. I just need an OSU free week as much as possible. Impossible of course in this area, but not seeing a sea of red and scarlet for one game will help.I don't care if you are a Bucks fan and a Zips fan. But last week at least one Zips alumni I know was wearing a Bucks shirt and I'm sure lots of others were too. If you are a fan of both teams it should be Zips first! Quote
skip-zip Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 I vote for the Lizard. They are very Zips friendly, and they are a supporter. We need to "thank" the people who truly support the Zips by being there. Quote
Big Zip Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 What part of Bobby Ake's comments from last week did you miss that they (the Winking Lizard) were in all OSU gear last week when we played them. They sponsor the Zips and give them money -- but lets not call them Zips friendly. Quote
skip-zip Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Big Zip...I am almost 100% certain that he was NOT talking about the Winking Lizard. I've watched many Zips game there, and that has never been the case. Are you possibly recalling my experience that I talked about at BW3?I do remember someone saying something about a bar where the staff was all dressed in OSU gear during the Akron/OSU game, but I'm quite certain that was not the Fairlawn Winking Lizard. Quote
zip81 Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 I will give the Fairlawn Winking Lizard a try since that seems to be where people are going. They DO host the coaches luncheon. However, someone did say last week that the staff was decked out in OSU gear.I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. However, I know for a fact that Rockne's on Merriman BUYS commercials on the 5th Quarter Show....to me, that means real support when they put their money up and wish the Zips success in their commercials.I know this, the Wing Warehouse in the Falls will get no more of my money. Quote
skip-zip Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Big Zip...I did find Bobbyake's post, and your are correct about what he said about the Winking Lizard. I obviouisly never saw that particular thread, and was recalling another thread where I heard some other bars mentioned as being all dresssed in OSU gear. Wow. I'm surprised since I've been there many times for Akron games, and many other Saturdays during football season, and never recall them being donned in OSU gear. So now, who is actually a Zip-supporting establishment?? I plan on being at the Lizard with the crew I usually go there with, as I always am for games I do not attend, but I'm hoping maybe a better option surfaces for the future. The Rocknes on Merriman might be what we're looking for. Quote
RowdyZip Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Me and some friends will be at bw3 on exchange. would love to see some folks from the board show up there too. i'm sure there will be a decent amount of zips fans like last week except minus the bucks fans. And remember folks...if you're looking for pro-zips...every server/bartender at bdubs last week was wearing zips gear. so join us! Quote
skip-zip Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Rowdy...I'm glad to hear that after my experience there last year during the Penn State/Akron game when the OSU/Northern Illinois game was being played. I had said I would never go there again for an Akron game, but it looks like they are supporting the good guys now Quote
RACER Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 you can be an osu fan,and a zips fan.i had my akron shirt on while watching among osu fans.like the one poster said if akron starts winning those local fans will go to zips games.until we start winning a consistent basis no one inclduing students are going to go to zips games. GoZips Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 We, the Zips fans, still have a huge mountain to climb for respect. That includes locally. Most Akron area residents were raised to be Buckeye fans. I know that I was. My ownfather played football at Akron and graduated from Akron back in the 1940's. Still,he was a Buckeyes fan.It was not as visually apparent in those days. Still, Akron was the little school on thehill that belonged in College Division and later Division III. The climb up out of the morass has been long and painful.Wins over NC State and others is gradually gaining support for the Zips. Even playing the Buckeyes close helps. I noticed that the Buckeye fans the local radio morons tendto blame the Buckeye players for "poor" performance rather than attest that Akron wasa darn good opponent. The Zips tested the Buckeyes. That game was part of coachTressel's developmental process in preparing for the Big Ten schedule.Just chide restaurant employees for wearing OSU colors. Do it kindly. Let's make thistown Zips country. My son took me to a restaurant in Mansfield after the game. Someof their workers had OSU gear on. I spoke up. Seems Mansfield considers itself partof the Columbus culture. But, they were willing to admit that Akron gave then a fright.I plan to be watching the IU game at the Galaxy in Wadsworth. I will be wearing Zipsgear. Quote
