Cards' Jacquemain decides on Akron

Tuesday, October 26, 2004

Mentor quarterback Chris Jacquemain has made a verbal commitment to accept a full football scholarship from the University of Akron, he said on Monday night.

"I saw the campus and the other facilities and was really impressed," said Jacquemain, who attended Akron's 35-23 victory over Ball State at the Rubber Bowl on Saturday night. "They're headed in the right direction with the program. Their coaches really care about the players."

The 6-2, 200-pound Jacquemain said he considered offers from some of Akron's Mid-American Conference rivals. Jacquemain has completed 120 of 226 passes for 1,572 yards and nine touchdowns, and rushed for 593 yards and 10 touchdowns in 136 carries for the 6-3 Cardinals.

Great pick up, but I was thinking the same thing. Seems like were getting a lot of QB's. I would hope that they start stocking up on good offensive and defensive linemen. We certainly could use some receivers too. Hard to beleive that it is a weakness now.

Getsey will be the #1 QB for the next 2 years. You don't transfer from Pitt's #2 QB to become Akron's #2 QB.

Ferguson will likely be #2 next year, with Jabari going to full time WR. Flaherty doesn't seem to be in the mix at all.

The new kid...assuming he'll be a QB...would redshirt next season, then be in the mix for back up QB in 2006.

It wouldn't shock me if we signed another QB. Maybe Ferguson doesn't want to be a career back up and transfers.

Does Flaherty have Ashland on his mind? The writing seems on the wall that his PT will be very limited over the next couple years.

My 2 cents.

Generally speaking coaches can never recruit enough QBs.

QBs tend to be excellent overall athletes who have size, speed, skill and most importantly they UNDERSTAND the game. Most high school QBs also played a defensive secondary position. Hint, hint.

BTW ... look to the NFL. Several former college QBs play a different position in the NFL for the same reason as I stated above. Randal El of the Steelers comes to mind. There

are most asuredly others.

Getsy is #1 QB... has 2 years beginning in 2005

Shoemaker is #2 QB... has 4 years beginning in 2005

Ferguson is #3 QB... unless he transfers

Jacquemain redshirts, has 4 years beginning in 2006

Flaherty moves to TE, ... has 4 years beginning in 2005

Arthur is a full-time receiver with 3 years beginning in 2005
