w00t
Because he's steering it pretty well. As if it needed to be said, huge win tonight... but if last week's loss (or any loss) deserves a "do we have the right coach?" thread, then this one deserves a "yes, we have the right coach" response. Oh, and Can't lost too.
ZipAlumn
Because he's steering it pretty well. As if it needed to be said, huge win tonight... but if last week's loss (or any loss) deserves a "do we have the right coach?" thread, then this one deserves a "yes, we have the right coach" response. Oh, and Can't lost too. I'll admit that I've had my doubts about Brookhart ... and I probably will still have them. However give credit where credit is due ... this guy comes up with some real interesting and very effective plays at times. This has to be better than anything I've seen (and I didn't even get to see it) in a long time. Better than the last second reception in the Motor City Bowl. Congratulations Coach. :thumb:
GP1
Zip Alumn is right, we all have/had our doubts. I still hate the defense we run and it really put us in a bad spot last night, butt in general, this team is going in the right direction under JD.We are in a position where we are able to win close games for the first time in school history. We should all feel good about our chances for the remainder of the season. Akron is the team to beat in the MAC East. Six more games and we really need to get at least five wins in the final six.Where oh where are the throngs of butt monkeys that came on the board after a defeat to UCONN? Don't wait for another loss to come in.
Lee Adams
i'll be one to admit i sure as hell did not expect this! and yes as ZIP&$ i was one who was saying lets look at what Brookhart is doing with the program...lets see if this helps pull the offense together at least...the D still stinks! Class of 82
Brookhart is the only coach who has brought us a MAC title and a bowl game. Is he the second coming of Woody Hayes? Of course not. But I think he's show that he's a decent coach who kids seem to respond pretty well to.My only real beef is the totally unacceptable number of recruits who aren't able to stay eligible. That has to change, and I believe Rhoades has publicly made that clear. As for the defense, well, it sure looked pretty formidable in the Horseshoe. Brookhart has said on numerous occasions that it is the difficullty of finding enough good D-linemen that necessitates the 3-3-5 scheme. In other words, he's trying to make the best of a bad situation. While I'm no expert by any means, it sounds plausible to me. An undermanned D-line getting dominated more often than not in the Owens era was always our Achilles heal, even when we had Jason Taylor. I don't know what's going on with the defense at the moment, but I have to believe losing Mackey was a far-greater loss than most of us may realize.Anyway. My two cents. ZachTheZip
You may criticize his ability to recruit athletes that can stay eligible. You may criticize his choice of Defense. You may criticize his offensive coordinator. You may criticize his ability to adjust at halftime. You may even criticize his clothing style. But one thing that you ABSOLUTELY cannot criticize is his players' hearts and will to win. Brookhart is instilling this team with the expectation to win. They have a never-say-die attitude. They will. not. give. up. And we're a better team for it.
uafan
GP1, I am here. Yes, I have cricized JD in the past, and I stand by my critiques. But yes, that was a great game and win. Leave it at that, and I will not say anything negative on this thread. But I will remember what uakronkid said! So go ahead and gloat, you have this week! Zipsrifle
I guess fans are the same everywhere. Lose a game and they are calling for your head (I'm sure there were a few calling for Pete Carroll's head last night ) and win a close one on a miracle play and you're a god. Trust me folks, that was NOT a planned play, it was pure LUCK!

Big Zip
Ummmm, excuse me how is JD getting credit for a complete blown coverage of a kick that was returned 89 yards. If the team went into Western and took care of business I get it, but this was a miracle win. A miracle win that I'll take, but this was a horribly played defensive football game that saw (IMHO) horrible play calling on the final drive that stalled with four passes into the end zone from the seven. Don't get me wrong -- I'll take any win. Keep in mind though we have no idea if this WMU team is any good -- they beat a terrible Toledo team that barely squeaked by Liberty yesterday and Central Connecticut State. On the other hand GP1 how is it we doubt the coaches competence and we're but monkeys and you trash (far worse than any of us) the QB of this team and you don't get the same moniker? By the way the QB that threw for almost 400 yards yesterday. Someone has to get him some stickum, but this was a quite an improvement this week from the passing perspective. We have all sat through too many years of losing and coming out on the wrong side of a play like last night. Sorry if there are those out there who either can't see that, or don't want to see that.Look, I understand that there are some on this board that are made uncomfortable with winning. In fact, I think there are some on this board that secretly root for losing so they can be right about whatever they feel they need to be right about. Big Zip, I can only say that if the shoe fits, you should wear it and be more honest in your posts.CJ11 passed for a lot of yards yesterday. He also had too many turnovers. I didn't see the game so I really don't know how it really went for the team. Maybe he is the right guy. Right or wrong, I will be rooting for his success as my ego won't be damaged by being wrong about him being a good QB.
akronad
Other than instilling heart into this team, last night's victory was nothing than pure luck. Don't get me wrong, I'm like any other guy. I'll take a victory any way I can, but for those of you who totally believe that JD hand much of a hand in this victory forget. What we need to do, is look into the skies. And yes, even with all of the excuses after yet another loss,
RACER
for as much as i get down on the zips.jd did a hell of a job in getting williams to go to akron.the offense play calling took advantage of the western bad defense.i would like to see more of williams out of the backfield.for a guy who was not even on our two deep he is by far the best rb home run threat akron has had in awhile.biggs was a good back but he does not have the breakaway speed.i hope cj11 sees that we have more weapons that just ja.owens also looked pretty good. Losers have plays like that end in failure. It always seems like the winners have luck on their side, while the losers simply have a lot of bad luck continously. There's a reason for that. It's called willpower. The players willed themselves to victory, no matter how bad the situation looked. That's an attitude that the coaches give to their teams.
