Guest Zip88 Posted November 14, 2004 Report Posted November 14, 2004 Way to go Zips... 6-1? Who would have dared to dream this?? JD has brought something to this program that it sorely lacked -- mental toughness and discipline. They bring it and keep bringing it til the final gun. Marshall found that out last week and Ohio did this week. In the past a 28-7 Herd lead or a 13-0 Ohio lead... game over. Not with JD... Given our past history, I have to admit, I was thinking bad thoughts down 13-0. But these Zips don't give up... Credit JD for that. 6-1 and playing for MAC East Championship!!! It amazes me that these are many of the same players yet I see fewer "stupid penalties " and less fading at the end of games. Mental toughness and physical conditioning are to be given the credit. This team puts the pressure on their opponents to perform -- 6 out of 7 haven't been able to stand up to it. Still the rest of MAC, especially the West (NIU, BGSU, Toledo) haven't figured it out yet . I hope we use it to our advantage and that they all wake up to find the MAC Championship trophy has been won by the Zips the hard way -- earning it on the field. Miami is next up. Biggest game I can ever remember. Home in our rusty, old, run-down stadium.. the one everyone hates to come play us in. Good. We have always played Miami tough here... Now this year's Zips are even tougher and worse for the rest MAC, they believe -- and so do I... GO ZIPS.... WIN IT FOR YOURSELVES, WIN IT FOR THE SCHOOL, WIN IT FOR THE CITY But most of all enjoy the ride.... you've earned it!!!! Quote

Guest Lee Owens Posted November 15, 2004 Report Posted November 15, 2004 I also coached the 2002 Akron team that beat #25 Marshall one week and then blew a 10-0 halftime lead and lost 28-10 to the lowly Bobcats. The 6 wins achieved by this year's team is incredible given the poor start the team got off to and the lack of recruiting that my staff did. Who would of thought that a team with a defensive back and rookie college player would be the two of the top three receivers. HEY MR. & MRS. OWENS - QUIT POSTING ON THE AKRON BOARD AND WORRY ABOUT BUILDING A WINNER AT ASHLAND. IT'S OVER. LET IT DIE. Quote
