mollautt Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 =>Almost assures that the Miami-Akron winner will go to a bowl. I was concerned that BUGS would get the 2nd MAC bowl spot if the East Champ loses in the MAC Championship Game. Now, with BUGS likely having a spot out west, the MAC finalists will both go bowling. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...60386/-1/SPORTS The Mid-American Conference will have three football teams play in bowl games this season for the first time in league history. This week the conference, which is promised spots in the Motor City Bowl and the GMAC Bowl, will strike a deal with the Silicon Valley Football Classic which is played in San Jose on Dec. 30. "We're extremely excited about the possibilities of working with the MAC," said Daniel Fenton, president of the Silicon Valley Football Classic, in confirming the deal. "We think having Bowling Green or one of the other MAC schools [in our game], from a football perspective, could create an exciting match-up." Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 My guess: The Zips need to win-out to go bowling. Assuming BG is in (which they are), I would be shocked if a bowl chose Akron over NIU, Toledo, Miami or Marshall...even if we'd have beaten 2-of-the-4. Zips gotta take it one game at a time, starting Saturday. Quote
zff Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Last night on Steve French's tv show he talked about the bowl situation. He said he was told that under the table the MAC East and West champion will get a bowl bid. And I agree with that thinking. It would be total BS not to send the champ from each division to a bowl game. He also went on to say that since the Zips have not be to a bowl before that the most likely would end up in the Motor City Bowl. Because it is close to Akron and more fans would probably go there rather than drive to Alabama. Of couse if the Zips don't beat the Redhawks none of this will matter. One play at a time for 60 minutes. Git-R-Done!!!!!!! Quote
zipsbandman Posted November 16, 2004 Report Posted November 16, 2004 Funny how that MTSU game may come back to haunt us. Quote

Akron would have lost out to BUGS, which in all honesty, is more deserving than any team from the East. Now that the MAC has found a bowl for BUGS, I am certain both teams in the MACC will go bowling. Quote
