He finished his senior season with 58 receptions for 1,284 yards and 11 touchdowns in Coach Scott Tinsley’s offense. As a basketball player, McClanahan averaged 23.3 points as a junior and hit 64 3-pointers, while averaging 5.2 assists and 4.1 steals per game. He shot 73.9 percent from the free throw line and is 192-of-255 from the foul line during his career.Last Jan. 22, McClanahan scored 47 points against hurricane in a 79-70 victory. That matched Huntington star O.J. Mayo for the highest-scoring individual performance in the state in the 2006-07 season.McClanahan also has 202 career 3-pointers. His point total makes him the Wildcats’ No. 3 career scorer behind Jason Beller (1992-2000) with 1,543 and Jeff Clark (1996-2000) with 1,361 points.Last year, Coach Dean Lee — who resigned in the offseason to follow his daughter during her senior year at Winfield High — said that McClanahan has “established himself as one of the premier players in the state. He developed more and more as a star.”This season McClanahan will play for his third head coach in four years. Former St. Albans Coach Tex Williams is the new coach at Nitro.
