oh im saying that Austin Peay is about the same level of quality as virginia commonwealth...they both suck
Please...what I call sucking is having one NCAA appearance in the history of your school as a 15 seed in 1986. What I call sucking is having 26 wins in a year and still getting passed over by not only the NCAA but NIT as well. You can talk smack when you actually do something and have a history as a team. Gimme a break. Austin Peay has been to more tourney's than Akron at least.
VCU is a pretty good team. Beat Duke and took Pitt to OT, I was a Pitt fan before I came to Akron, I was from the Burgh...but Akron sucks? Hahaha I didn't know the current status of a team was judged on our 20 year history of being D-1. I can't wait until we beat you by 20 in the JAR.
That was just a response to an overzealous fan who just mentioned us in the same sentence with Austin Peay (OVC teams??? Are you kidding me?). I did not mean any offense to the rest of you sane-minded fans. Anyone who says VCU sucks has no idea what they're talking about. I was just putting things in perspective when you tell a team that they suck when they are 5-8 in NCAA tournament games and your own team has played one 22 years ago that you lost. The irony was all I was pointing out...as is the fact that Austin Peay has been the tournament more. Or the fact that with 26 wins you did not make a postseason tournament. A fan certainly has balls to tell a team they suck when that team is coming off a tourney win against Duke and 2nd round exit in overtime to Pitt, and their own team hasn't even played a tourney game in 22 years. Just saying...trust me, we got hosed with this matchup and deserved better. You won't help us whether we win or lose. I really, really doubt you'll beat us by 20. If you do beat us...it will be a tough, hard fought game.P.S. Where are all the fans??? This board is sooo quiet, it's creepy.

District Baller... we certainly appreciate your enthusiasm for this upcoming game. But when we see people come on here challenging us on the improbable idea that a team from a less-than-premier conference (I'm being nice) can pull off a win in our arena, we're going to comment. I mean, is it really THAT big of a stretch to compare a good OVC team to a good Colonial team? Come on. And....you base your thoughts on our entire history as a D1 team? I suggest you take a look at where we are right now. Isn't that what really matters?1) 5th best current home win streak in the country....yes...the COUNTRY2) Only loss over the LAST 3 SEASONS is to a top-ranked Nevada team...and by ONE POINT.We've smoked some GOOD teams at home by 30+ points, and we've already had our close call already this year. Seriously, if you guys can get within 20 points of us, consider it a victory. Most people do. We really appreciate that we are not playing a scrub, so we're glad we got a decent matchup. But, my suggestion is, if you consider yourself to be knowledgable about college basketball, is to think seriously about staying away from talking smack to the fans of a team that is one of the most unbeatable teams in the country at home.

I apologize to the other 5 fans on this board for any offense. I just get peeved when people disrespect my team with no due cause. You guys are not respected generally in College basketball and a win against us will go a long way towards getting in the public and national consciousness. I wish you guys luck, you have a great shot at home where you are very good. I look forward to a great game, and hopefully meeting several of your more civil fans at the game!

Yes...when the OVC is the 30th ranked conference in the RPI and the CAA is 14th in a huge down year for the CAA. It's a humongous stretch. Guys remember who the higher ranked team here is. You guys are talking as if we're lucky to get you guys. Most people in the CAA consider this a huge shaft job. I didn't talk any smack until some douchebag came on here saying that we suck and compared us to Austin Peay! Are you serious? Have they ever been higher than a 15 seed? You guys need to show VCU some respect too. You may very well win this game, but don't walk around like your entitled to it. Remember VCU has played far better opponents and beat them. We've also lost to worse teams than Akron. I'm just saying that this is a VCU team that is very capable of winning this game. And to say that you'll beat us in Richmond shows more arrogance...we certainly don't have Akron's dominant record at home. I think we're only 106-19 at the Siegel Center. But it shows a lack of respect...If TEMPLE can keep it to a 2 point game, I see no reason why it's not possible for us to win. And you shouldn't give any more reason for Eric Maynor to have any bulletin board material. God knows how many teams he haunts to this day. Greg Paulus and Greivis Vasquez still shiver when they think about him.

Everyone you hear that? We have to "respect VCU" on OUR BOARD!! I mean yes they're good and all...but we suck? You've beaten teams better than us? Your CAA friends think you got shafted? Give me a break. You guys beat Maryland (66 RPI) and Houston (65). We beat Temple (69) and Ohio (51). You're all uptight about it not helping RPI. The MAC HAS A HIGHER RPI!!! AND GUESS WHAT?!?! WE'RE IN FIRST PLACE!!! You know what, if you beat us at home, it's a great accomplishment, and it would be nice to see someone give us a good game. But please, we aren't entitled to it? We've won 22 straight games!! Took Dayton to 2OT at Dayton. If we think the VCU Rams are gonna beat us, you're out of your mind! I'm a little worried about the return game next year on the road, but guess what? YOU'RE COMIN TO THE JAR THIS YEAR BABY!!!!

Guess what buddy? We're not playing your conference. We're playing Akron...and VCU is 18 spots higher in the RPI. We're 58, you're 75. Yeah I think we got shafted. We play a team 18 spots below us in the RPI on the road who just happens to be 55-2 over the last couple of seasons at home. If that is not a shaft, I'm not sure what is. Which means you can't help us, win or lose. We win, we maybe go up 1 spot, we lose we drop 10. I think respect goes both ways. If you can't respect your opponent, then that sucks for you. At the VCU board, we don't like the game we were given, but we certainly respect Akron and their record at home. Guess what? The Mac is right above the CAA...and the CAA is in a huge downswing this year. Drexel, ODU and Hofstra are horrible this year, and they were at the top of the conference last year. ODU beat Georgetown AT Georgetown last year and got an at-large bid, Drexel beat Syracuse AT Syracuse, Villanova AT Villanova, Creighton AT Creighton and several other wins and was one of the biggest snubs in the NCAA's last year. Hofstra was a mid 30 rpi team the year Mason went on their Final Four Run and was another snub from the tourney. They had a better RPI last year than Akron this year. They all stink now and are rebuilding. Ask any college bball fans about the CAA vs. the MAC over the past few years and the CAA will take the cake overwhelmingly. There was a reason we were being compared with the MVC and A10 and not the MAC. This year is a down year for the conference and we concede that. Even then the MAC is only 1 spot better. Look at the quality of recruits coming into CAA schools and you'll see they far outshine the MAC as well. When I said we've beaten better teams than you...I meant that we have beaten teams better than you...not teams you've played.

Zippy 5...a little harsh, but you are right. I want to know how any of the Colonial Conference faithful can think that this is a "shaft job".YOU ARE PLAYING THE 1ST PLACE TEAMFROM THE BEST DIVISIONIN A HIGHER RANKED CONFERENCEIN A PLACE WHERE THEY ARE VIRTUALLY UNBEATABLE.WHAT MORE OF AN OPPORTUNITY CAN YOU WANT THAN THAT???????????????The "Austin Peay" reference is surely a reference to the fact that a lower ranked conference is sending one of their top teams to our place. This has not worked out well for these folks in the last few years. Consider it a great victory if you can keep it under 20 (unless we put in the subs midway through the 2nd half).

DISTRICT, with all due respect, you are completely in over your head. You, like you fellow CAA folks, put way, way too much stock in the lame assed RPI system. RPI and SOS are so phony. Akron could have a nifty RPI if they whoredthemselves out by going to a big name program and taking a loss on the road. Many mid-majors take this route to boost their RPI. Cant, Ohio and Miami are amongthem. Akron takes a different route with scheduling. Here the long term plan is to gradually build a solid OOC schedule playing home-home series with the topmid-major programs. This takes awhile and often does not look pretty. But, its working. We know who we are. And, we know that our kids are one of the bestprograms in the country. Most big time coaches would never come to our house for several reasons. Not the bullcrap you want to spew. Akron is a tough outwhich you are about to find out. Its going to pain you.Pointing out such nonsense as the Zips are losing four seniors next. Who cares? Not us. We reload all the time. We are almost entirely crafted from high schoolrecruits. There are no bums, no dirty players, no short cut takers or kids failing in the classroom. This program is built very much like Mark Few's Gonzaga. We run an eleven man rotation. That is why I offered on your CAA board a link to the latest box score. Instead of reviewing the total stat line you have a posterthat claims we ran up the score because we scored 80 points. Which all the Akron readers know is nonsense. The Zips could easily scored over 100 points. Checkthe play by play and learn that the kids led by 26 with 6:29 to play (71-45). We win by 19. We scored nine points the last six minutes because it was all our walk ons.Akron does not run up scores. By the same token even the walk ons are allowed to play their best. Fact. The walk ons were told to run the clock down the lastfour minutes of the game. To the dismay of the fans who get free BBQ wings from a local restaurant if the Zips put up 80 points. A senior walk on nailed a treyat the end of the game to get the wings for the fans. What years we were in post season play or how we faired has no bearing on these kids. You are ignorant and not a real basketball fan when you diss the kidsfor being snubbed with 26-7 record. That was an insult to ALL mid-major programs by a pack of evil old men all from big name conferences. Wisely Akron hascapitalized on this flagrant insult by getting better programs to finally negotiate series. You CAA people brag about beating Duke in the tournament. Posters on this board know that last season I was begging for a play in game against Duke. I knewthen that we could easily beat them. So, your beating Duke means little to me. They were ripe for a fall. They flat out sucked and I am glad VCU beat them.Be sure and come to the VCU-Akron game. You are in for a shock. This place is not next of kin to Chicken Little. Here is a suggestion: Beat our ass before you run your mouth. My prediction. VCU loses twice, this year and next.

Oh no...now this guy is going to talk about recruits.Do you know that we've landed several All-Ohio players in the last couple of years?? Do your homework "buddy". Yes...a MAC school...how about that? Maybe these guys should have considered the Colonial. But I didn't hear that any of them did. I wonder why?

Oh really? How bout the Virginia State Player of the Year, 3 first-team all state of Florida recruits? for the 5th best mid-major recruiting class in the country where not a single MAC team is mentioned in the top 20???http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=682458I'll be fifth behind Memphis and Gonzaga any day? :) Oh yeah one of our recruits (he was only 2nd team all-state) is the leading freshmen shot blocker in the country, and 15th overall. How do you like dem apples?P.S. My bad we're 57 not 58.

Right...now you want to bash the level of talent in Ohio?? The place that everyone, no matter where you live, calls the "hotbed" of high school athletic talent? Where every college coach comes to recruit??If the Virginia player of the year goes to a Colonial conference team, doesn't that tell you something?Go ahead and get the shovel and dig your hole a little deeper now.

skip-zip, an Akron fan mentioned Nikola Cventinovic on the CAA board. A poster claimed he never heard of Nik. Odd, Nik is rated as the third best HS playerin Virginia. Not third best in his conference, not third best in his division, but third best player over all in Virginia.I would say that the Zips found a pretty decent player over in Lynchburg. Six-seven, 240#, averaging over 20 ppg and often pulls down double-doubles. Hmmmmm.

Realtimerpi lists you as 58...I'm right you can't subtract...But how bout these apples? Pitt has had 3 straight top 25 recruiting classes in football.Have they had a winning season in the past 3 years. You guessed it, no.No one really gives a sh*t about your recruits. Unless they morph into your walk-ons bodies and play with your starters this year in the JAR, it doesn't matter.

Let's be honest. VCU will give a good game. They have a lot of talent and they are a program on the rise. I expect they will win the CAA. The only competition theyface is from George Mason. The Zips on the other hand has a tough in conference schedule ahead of them We still have to face, Ohio, Miami, BGSU and WesternMichigan on the road. That is not unlike facing George Mason four times, all on the road. Throw in Cant here and that makes it five times.I realize that CAA people have little knowledge of the MAC. Too bad, as the MAC is a tough, hard nosed dog fight of a conference.Sadly, they buy into the RPI crap like it is caviar. Its fish eggs, that's all.

No we use the jerry palm RPI which is what the NCAA uses. Haha...well we are not Pitt football. Two of them DO start for VCU. If Akron ever got a recruiting class like that you'd bust a nut, but jealousy is understandable. I mean, you want to be where we are...so I get it, and I'm flattered. Good luck with that.

Too bad the rest of the NCAA, including the Selection Committee buy into your "RPI Crap" as well. If it didn't matter, I would not have minded this match-up at all. RPI 190 Bowling Green? 165 West. Michigan? I'll give you Miami and Ohio as tough matchups...but don't start with the other two even touching Mason.

Good point .....GoZipsHey, how bout "those apples" district baller?? A MAC school got the 3rd rated player in your state. So, since you brag that you got this top-notch Virginia talent to come to VCU, then why would your 3rd ranked player IN THE STATE go to a lowly MAC school??
Who is this player you speak of? LOL. We have the State Player of the Year. Actually we only had him from Virginia...The rest are from Florida. Coach Grant was mining that place like crazy haha...

For what it's worth, the RPI discussion really means F***-all anyways. VCU beat Duke last year, and the committee will look favorably on that. Apart from that, neither team matching up on the 23rd will be able to do anything to convince the "ol' boys' club" that they deserve an at-large bid. Period. This game means nothing but national exposure on an ESPN network.I have sour news for both teams: if you don't win your conference, you won't be in the tournament. So the pointless pissing match can stop now. Fans of both teams would do well to wish each other good luck and be done with it.

District, apparently you have an inferiority complex. You have to find fault with everything. Then you twist it to attempt to prove something you do not knowanything about.Case in point, you keep referring to the RPI as if it were some golden and pure measuring stick. It is not. It is a lie. It proves nothing. Last year Akron had an RPI better than eleven teams admitted to the NCAA tournament. These were all at large bids. The claim the selection committee was not the 26 wins, or the 13 wins on the road, it was our SOS. It is all a sham. and when VCU gets screwed by those old a-holes, do not come here for sympathy.I am going to bed. I am tired of dealing with a twelve year old.

Hmmm..Can't State beat George Mason by 18 points...and WE'VE BEATEN Can't STATE 4 OF THE LAST 5 TIMES WE'VE PLAYED THEM OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.Do you need to know anything more than that? District Baller...that's EXACTLY what we are saying. You're bragging about the POY in your state going to VCU, when the 3rd rated player in your STATE signed with a lowly MAC school. Does that not tell you anything?
