zen
Anyone know the status of that run down car wash(?) across the street from the stadium? Does UA have plans to buy that?It used to have a subway in it... one of the only subways I ever saw with a drive thru.Me and my GF both ordered seafood&crab subs there and we both got really really nasty food poisoning from it. We should have gone to the emergency room.... nay, we were too busy hurling and sitting on the thone to drive... we should have called an ambulance and sued subway, then we'd have owned the place and could sell it over to UA without eminent domain

pdt1420
The subway must have moved since your time. It's now located on the SE corner of that intersection. The place that was formerly subway is now the former home of the greatest $5 pizza that you never had to wait for... Pizza NOW!!! got me through alot of weekend benders. The Subway WAS at the west end of the carwash building.Personally, I'd be excited to see the university grab up all that area between spicer and rt.8 and really make it into something nice.I like that whole Greek Village concept... I mean, if you make an entire park-like area with a bit of a southern Mediterranean feel to it and put in buildings for residences and fraternities / sororities, it would go a LONG way to giving the university a more residential and less commuter atmosphere

tbozeglav
nope... its just boarded up. Either they went out to business or the University bought it.

Zipmeister
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the latest rumor is that because of the weather (and other factors, I'm sure), the stadium is currently 1 month behind schedule. Does anyone have any details on this?I hate it when you have to do something you hate. They were about a week behind at the time the topping off ceremony was conducted. So if you are correct, a month behind at this point isn't too bad. My guess is they will have the project complete within 6 weeks of schedule. tbozeglav
I am fully confident they will have it done in time. Do you honestly believe that they didn't take into consideration the crappy weather that NE Ohio has during the winter months? They more than likely gave themselves a month or so of a buffer so that in case of inclement weather during the winter they wouldn't run past the beginning of the football season. They'll have it done in time. You just gotta have faith in them. If anything, I am sure they are focusing on getting anything related to gameday operations completed first. If there's anything that isn't done come home opener, it'll be the classroom levels.
ZZZips
I am not a construction expert, but does it seem logical with all that is on the line with this project that the companies involved would work virtually no ovetime if the project was one month behind. zen
Guys guys guys.... If you get your structural done, and all the services in place (the utilities, the communications equipment, and the operations equipment), you're not going to cancel a game just because they didn't lay carpet in the 4th floor offices or because there are no baby changers in the concourse level bathrooms, or because the logo wasn't painted on the loge level wall, or because the air conditioning wasn't tweaked properly in the visiting locker rooms *cough* bottom of list *hint* *cough*mmkay? I just look at site last year when the cams came on line and how much was done six months later. I fully expect even better progress this year over the next siz monthsThey'll have the gameday operations done in time. There maybe other tweaks they'll stil be doing come Sept 19. But, I'm confident at the pace they're, it will be ready come Sept 19th. That's seven months from now and more then enough time to have gameday operations done. If, they were to run into trouble. I expect to see them working Saturdays again. I didn't see any work being done on what was good weather Saturday yesterday. That tells me the timeline is fine for now.
tbozeglav
kinda hard to see on the webcams, but definitely visible when you look at the stadium... crew has started installing the windows on the 4th floor... nice to see that already started

They're also picking up the pace on the endzone facility today.

bigham78
Anyone else catch that jacuzzi / hot top being dropped into the endzone facility? You have a great vision or one heck of computer to able to tell that detail from these cams. A week ago we couldn't tell if those were bleachers or beams on the pressbox side until they started putting in the upper deck.Being able to tell they lowered a jacuzzi / hot top/ whirlpool is nothing short of impressive.
Zip Watcher
I wish I had been smart enough to save the image .. because it was clear as day. Took them maybe 5 minutes to do it. The thing was about the size of a truck cab .. not hard to see.

Dr Z
I can only show you what it looks like from the web cams, for those of you that can't load that page, here it is.
bigham78
I believe he's reaching out to our local UofA people who have posted pictures in the past. You can tell from the cams that the windows are going in on the Lee Jackson field side. But, it would be nice to see still shot from someone in the Akron area of what it looks like. The cams are great. But, the stills always show how much progress has really been made for naysayers who think the project is way behind and it's not per UofA beat writer with the ABJ. They're still on target and not behind their projected completion schedule.
