tbozeglav Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 I've had two dreams this week about the opening of the stadium! Man, I've really gotta get a life. You're not alone.another one here... Quote
Zipsrifle Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 You can't see them on the cams, but the dorms are already going up. The foundation was poured a while ago and now the first floor is being built. The sign on the street corner of Spicer and Vine streets said they would open in August 2010. If anybody could get some pics, that would be awesome.I added some new and older pictures of the stadium. They are atInfocision Stadium.Scroll down to see the latest photos with the new dorm foundation work. (Latest pictures are 6681-6704. I cannot get the older pictures to move to the beginning for some reason.)You should post this link on Urbanohio.com. There are about 557 treads an the "Major Construction" going on in Cleveland, and two or three about the construction in Akron. You know, who cares about $100+ million dollars worth of construction in Akron...... May I suggest this link???http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,9375.30.htmlOh, and this is the best summary of ICS construction out there IMO. Quote
zipfan85 Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 i just can't wait until they start putting down the field. i'm tired of looking at the same huge mud puddles.or they could just draw lines in the mud and play REAL football!! in the middle cam, it looks like there are sidelines. maybe they are going to play in the mud...lol Quote
tbozeglav Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 construction crews are starting to install all the glass for the main concourse/elevator tower. Also noticed they've been making really good progress with the brickwork around the stadium. Quote
WinZip Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 With the weather getting nicer I'm expecting some visable changes. The bricks and glass look great!! People are gonna start noticing a stadium where the construction site used to be. Quote

My nephew is thrilled. He's an assistant coach at Hoban. They were going to playing at Hoban this year as UofA wanted to the first game ever played at the Info. But, once UofA signed to play Morgan St they told Hoban-SVSM if they wanted to schedule the game for Friday of the next week they could have that night. They signed it as like the article says. Neither Hoban's Field, Dowed Stadium or St. Vincent-St. Mary's Stadium on Green Street have been large enough to handle the over 10,000 plus fans that usually attend. Quote
ZippyRulz Posted April 24, 2009 Report Posted April 24, 2009 Many stadium records will be set on Sep. 12 and many of them will be broken on the 18th Quote

tbozeglav Posted April 24, 2009 Report Posted April 24, 2009 In case anyone here was wondering what happened to the Stadium's website ( www.uakron.edu/stadium/ ), here's what happened. The athletic department decided to pull some politics on those of us in charge of maintaining the school's website. One of my co-workers put together the website you all know and trained 6 different people on how to edit the site and keep it up-to-date. However, for reasons unfathomable for us here, the Athletic Department decided that website wasn't want they wanted to use anymore and, in essence, forced us to take down the site and redirect the url above to gozips.com. There was no warning, no time for us to get things figured out, just take down the site and redirect it to gozips.com. To say the very least, we were very ticked off, but there's not a whole lot we can do because of the power the athletics department holds. Athletic Departmens "reasoning": http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?&am...amp;SPSID=47122In the athletic department's defense, it was dumb to have two websited for the same thing, but the least they could have done was just copied everything over to gozips.com. Because of this move, I can't find any of the renderings of the stadium... Quote

ziptrumpet87 Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 Doing some grading on the field today presumably for the turf. Still have some supplies on the field by the north endzone so they can't start laying any artificial turf on that end. Quote
infofan Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 rough grading going on on field. also- did anyone else notice the excavation being done in south endzone- site of scoreboard. Im surprised the sccoreboard skelestructure hasnt been erected yet, but still time. Great news this week about Hoban St V/M game going to INFO. Thats some rabid fans we can introduce to stadium/campus. Quote
Zips DM Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 A little bird told me that the turf will start May 1st, and the scoreboard is slated to start on June 1st. Quote

I'm getting jacked seeing the field work and south end slope work today. I'll be in town Memorial Day and plan on going over for in person look. Quote

Or would that get destroyed working on the scoreboard?I dont think they'll be planting grass... I think they'll be bringing in sod and laying it down. However, they won't lay it until all heavy construction equipment is done in the area. Once they get the concrete walkway laid down and most of the scoreboard up, they'll be able to use the cherrypickers from the concrete walk to finish the work on the scoreboard. Quote

bUAkronG Posted April 26, 2009 Report Posted April 26, 2009 woohoo, lost my old computer in a tragic beer-spilling accident so I have been M.I.A. while awaiting my new one. But thankfully it's here and I have returned. Boy, I started on page 46 and a couple hours later I'm up to date on page 64!!Here's a new one for you guys. The past few nights there has been a helicopter flying around late at night(midnight-ish) shining a spotlight on the stadium facilities. Is this to keep trespassers at bay? Interesting... Quote

ksu sucks Posted April 28, 2009 Report Posted April 28, 2009 That, my friend, its ghetto bird. It''s main priority is to keep tabs on the area a few miles south of campus, but it routinely flies as far north as exchange. I hate it. Make's me feel more like I'm in Compton than anything else. Akron PD has nothing better to do, so they make an enormous effort to stop college drinking/vandalizing instead of focusing on the important crap. Not to imply that I condone the stadium being vandalized. I'll let them watch that thing all day. Quote
