Forget keeping Hipsher

I don't like Dambrot as much as everyone else. Just a gut feeling...I wouldn't kill myself if he were hired, but I wouldn't have a party either.

If Larry Hunter couldn't win at OU, why would Akron be any different?

Dubious past for John Loyer. How's he doing now-a-days as a JUCO coach?

Write-in: I need to research it a bit, but there MUST be some really sharp D-II coaches ready to move up.

I'm going to vote for JL tonight because I definately want him to be part of the process. He should be interviewed. I trust the Boss's instincts & if a top assistant from the ACC or BE is available & interested .. then I'm interested.

My vote for Loyer today is for a few reasons:

1. If you google it .. his past doesn't appear as dubious as Bobby H would like people to believe. He was cleared by NCAA of infractions & yet UC still made him the scapegoat. I think he's every bit worth the look (if not more) than Dambrot.

2. He's a winner .. he's been a successful recruiter. He's played in the NCAA tournament, coached in the Final Four, coached a successful JUCO program, and now is in the NBA. He's been at every level.

3. HE'S A MEMBER OF THE ZIPS NATION. He's a Zip(s)! The banners in the JAR mean something .. there's tradition here. 21-10 all time in NCAA games isn't insignificant. And JL was a part of that. I'd like to see him come home for an interview.

Ultimately, I trust MT's judgement.

Would not be surprised to see my old coach get the job at Akron - that has been the talk around here for the last few months. KD has been laying the groundwork for his return to Akron for the past few years bringing in the top talent like Tarver, Joyce, and Travis. Once he has total control of the program you can expect more of the same as he will hit the JUuCo ranks hard and make the Zip program top flight in no time. He may bend a few rules along the way but the end result will be wins which is what it is all about.

Keeping Coach Hipsher is out of the equation. Hip is a great guy. But, his track record stinks. Year after year his promising teams falter down the stretch. Only one senior player ever had a great year under him. I hope coach lands a great job in position that allows his many talents to excel.

Frankly, I never heard of "Pete" Dambrot.

Larry Hunter was best known for recruiting thugs. Of which he had many. OU basketball was mostly a mugfest when Hunter held the reins. Opponents feared for the safety of their kids. Thugs do not make for gritty basketball they only produce nasty basketball. While I yearn for the days of Huggins where an opponent knew better than to drive the lane I'll pass on the brand of thugball Hunter is so fond of.

John Loyer brings a smile to my face. While a senior at Zippyland he once asked me if my date was as "hot" as she looked (a woman easily old enough to be his mother). She was and still is. As a head coach for the Zips Loyer may be just what the Zippers need. Coach Loyer is an Akron man. He was always popular. He is smart and has a good presense. An excellent choice.

The famous coach to be named later. Not sure on this one. The only way to impress me here would be to bring in a coach that has an awesome win to loss ratio. Not a just okay record as Hipsher had at Stetson. More inclined toward an ACC/SEC/BE assistant that has lower level success that got him his current assistant job.

Lastly, there is a guy on my radar screen that I have had my own gut feeling as to his abilities for years. He is right in town. He has local connections. He has a tawdry soiled past like a good dance hall gal. The kids love him. He proved he can find and more importantly develop talent. He has patience, determination and class. I cast my vote for the hiring of Keith Dambrot. Enough said. Do the deal, Charley.

Oh, speaking of Charley, one of the two and possibilly the best quarterback in the nation when will the SID beqin churning up the hype machine for a Heisman run?

Marshall would have been on this last year like they did for their players.

ALOHA! And as you know that means "Goodbye" and "Hello". The end of one era brings the beginning of a new one.

I think both change AND continuity can be found in a new UA men's bb coach. And as Rat Fink has pointed out, it's already here. And I can't imagine as suggested abe, that Keith would think of stretching the rules to win at alma mater. I can't see that in a Dambrot. It's not in their makeup. But, BTW -- is KD's sister still a FOX? Well, that was a long time ago, but I haven't changed. :)

And, while we're at it, I still haven't fully recovered from UA Psych Professor Dr Faye Dambrot causing me to appear before some administrative Toady for alleged academic cheating! All I did was write down a question to an exam and put it in my pocket to look up later. All that because Dr Dambrot refused to provide students with the answers to her tests -- after they were over, I mean!.

Here's to the future of Zips hoops.

AKRON1 .... three excellent choices. Now there is a tough decision. Zippy here is biased. One of those three names is a friend of mine and yes, he did hold the HC job at YSU for several years. Guess I'll go with Dan Peters. Although, coach Dambrot is as impressive and maybe more so since of his experience and overcoming adversity.
