mollautt
Cincinnati - Sept 27thIt's shame that Ben Mauk from Cincinnati wasn't granted another year of eligibility. Watched him in high school down at Paul Brown w/ Kenston and would have loved to see him play in person again.=>Akron ducking Miami??? :DSomeone on MiamiHawktalk.com said he/she got this Miami football schedule (below) from an inside source. Note that Akron is not on Miami's schedule and Miami has only 5 MAC East games. What if Akron has 6 MAC East games and like last year, only division game count? Say Miami goes 5-0 and Akron 6-0...is Akron then the MAC East Champs?Glad the MAC brought in Temple to create all this crazy scheduling?? Of course, this schedule may all be bologna. It has not been offically posted on www.muredhawks.com yet.8/28 Vanderbilt 9/6 @ Michigan 9/13 Charleston Southern 9/20 @ UC 9/27 bye 10/4 Temple 10/11 @ Northern Illinois 10/18 @ Bowling Green 10/25 Can't State 11/4 (tues) @ Buffalo ESPN2 11/11 Ball State ESPN2 11/22 @ Toledo 11/28 (fri) Ohio
ZachTheZip
Mollautt, Akron seems to have 5 OOC games this year. I think that we will likely have five East games and two West games. I can't see us having 6 East games and playing only one team from the West.

Captain Kangaroo
I think the MAC should eschew all but one conference game per year, each team's "Rivalry" game, for three years. MAC schools should play BCS schools on the road for 11 games. Say you average $650,000 per game...that's 7.15million dollars per MAC school, plus the guaranteed sell out of the rivalry game. Three years of that and everyone's football budget is covered for the next decade. Lots of TV exposure....revenue...how can you go wrong? The MAC coaches would select which teams should play in the MAC championship. Probably 3-9 Western Michigan vs. 4-8 Akron? lovezips
Wow if we can win 3 outta 5 we could be looking at a top 20 ranking!I hope this is a joke. No way in hell will we be ranked if we go 3-2....no way, not even possible....got news for you, 4-1 and we still wouldnt be ranked.
HOLLYWOODZIPPY
Wow if we can win 3 outta 5 we could be looking at a top 20 ranking!SyracuseWisconsinKentuckyCinciArmyHeard today from friends down south that Kentucky took us off their schedule for this fall. They released a revised schedule. They gave us the boot for Middle Tenn. What a rip. They better still open our new stadium cause they are gonna suck really bad next year and what a way to break it in than to knock off an SEC team, even if it is one of the SEC bottomfeeders. ZachTheZip
According to this thread (need to login first, it's free): http://ukthunder.proboards98.com/index.cgi...mp;thread=15960, Akron "asked out of their game". I can't see us breaking the contract with the team that's supposed to be our new stadium home opener unless we got a much better opponent to replace them. ZachTheZip
http://www.ukathletics.com/index.php?s=&am...hange_well_id=2Looks like it's official. Anybody have any insight into this? Anybody in the know that can talk to the coaches?
zipsbandman
Maybe the athletic department thinks we are going to be bad and will need to open the stadium with a creme puff.

ZippyRulz
I think we're talking about the 2008 game at Kentucky being cancelled, not the 2009 Kentucky at Akron new stadium opener.
Captain Kangaroo
I think we're talking about the 2008 game at Kentucky being cancelled, not the 2009 Kentucky at Akron new stadium opener. That's what I got out of it too. Seemed pretty clear? It is a smart move on UA's part. Wisconsin, Syracuse, Kentucky and Army road games to start the season would be grossly unfair to JD and the team. Sandwich a home game with Cincinnati in there...what was someone smoking when they came up with that schedule?
johnnyzip84
While the subject still seems to be fresh, I happened on two tickets to the UA-Wisconsin game being offered on eBay. This would seem to suggest that the game is still a go for 2008?Zip-Badger TicketsHey and they're ONLY asking $149.00 for both of them
akronad
Wisconsin is a go for 8/30 according to what Tom gaffney wrote in the BJ on Saturday. As far as the kKentucky game for '08 is concerned, I think it is the right move to make. Otherwise we would be starting out with 4 road games and opening the home season with Cincy 9/27. This way, things will be a bit staggered. I just hope we can find a competent replacement team.

UA1987
For me, the most interesting game on the schedule is Syracuse. That would be a big win. Next in order of interest is Can't, then Cinci, then Army then the remaining MAC contests. As I've said in a prior post, I don't like playing in Camp Ripoff. I still think Akron has a shot at being good in 2008. Road games may take a toll on the record, and there are alot of question marks, but I'm optimistic about the season. lovezips
Beating Syracuse is going to be VERY hard. They were very young last year and they beat up on Buffalo, who beat us bad. It will be very hard for us to win any OOC games. Last year against Army we were very lucky to have a big receiver like Jab. Without him that game we would have lost. UA1987
Sickafoos is very beatable. They squeaked by Buffalo by 8 points. We had one of our worst games of the year at Buffalo, so watch the comparison. I was at the Army game. I know Army, their no Akron.

I hate to say it but Im being realistic, 4 wins.
UA1987
So you want to be a wise guy... the Army game last year was never in question, although our offense looked weak as it did most of the year. Army scored on a blocked punt with only a few seconds to go in the contest to make it look closer than it was. Don't get me wrong, I have respect for Army, and we will have trouble in their house this year, but they are down right now as is Syracuse. Plain and simple, we seem to be meeting Syracuse at a good time as compared to their powerful past.As far as wins, for 2008, I don't like to speculate this early. I like to look at the new personnel during Spring. I do think we will be better now that we have more than one target at receiver and I'm betting the house that Bain will be a mad man on defense. Improved - yes. Questions - many. As far as your comment that we lost our best player on defense, I'm not sure who you mean, but Corner, and Stokes are replaceable and Mackey was out or half speed for most of the year. TennesseeZippy
Word on one of the University of Tennessee premium sites is that Akron is asking out of it's 2010 game with the Vols. These are my two favorite teams. Akron is where I grew up, and Tennessee is where I now live. Anyone heard anything about this up your way?
