Our Defense

Recommended Posts

Anybody else think we need to get tougher on defense? Can't is tough and look what happened. I mean they can play too tough and foul a lot, but a lot of times it works. They dive after balls. They never let people back them down. We play softer D. I'm not sure if KD is looking for tougher and it's just not happening, but I think we need to get tougher. By the way, I'm not trying to be like Can't. In order to do that you need your hippies license. You also need to have the guts to shout during the National Anthem. We can never be classless hippies. :puke::screwks: Go Zips!

I think we all already know that there is a big emphasis on defense under the current coach. I'm fine with that. In fact, I believe that has always been the most consistent part of his teams here at Akron. And much like yesterday, our defense keeps us in ballgames, even when we are playing badly. If anything on the defensive end could improve with this team, it would have to be our defensive rebounding, and our shot blocking. We were not a very good rebounding team this year, and once Quade is gone, Bardo becomes about the only guy with shot blocking ability in the paint.Other than that, the way we get after people defensively is one of the trademarks of this program right now.

our defense is fine.we just go through peroids where we dont shoot the ball well.at the same time we can get on roll on score points quickly.i know we lost but this team is never out of game with the thre ball shooters we have.

Our defense didn't lose the game, our going 1-21 from the field to start the game did. You always want a better defense, but if you can't make a single shot for ten minutes then you're going to lose.
Well part of that was because Can't was in our face with good defense the whole game and we couldn't get a good look. I'm not saying it lost the game, I'm just saying tougher defense works. Look at Tennessee. They play one of the best defenses I've seen. I mean I know they have athletes, but still, Bruce Pearl is making sure their defense is up at all times.

I haven't studied our offense in depth (other than to know it's one of two plays--either set a bunch of picks at the point by our big men, or dribble around for 25 seconds then fire a 3) but one thing I've noticed is that we never have anyone around the basket when we launch our shots. The offenses seem to pull everyone, including our big men, so far away from the hoop that when we do miss, we're totally out of position to get an offensive board.I'm in KD's camp when it comes to defense. Defense first, and build off of that.
