MACReport Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 News broke last week about the MAC being involved in a proposed new bowl game in Washington, DC. We followed up to get some clarification and also spoke with Rick Chryst about the MAC's potential involvement in the proposed Congressional Bowl and some other bowl related matters:http://www.macreportonline.com Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 The MAC needs to get a 4th place team that merits a bowl game before accepting a bowl.2008:WMU played competitive vs. Purdue, but lost.Ball State was thoroughly outclassed by RutgersBG was flat-out embarrassed by TulsaMiami was the MAC East champ and didn't have a .500 recordIt is a shame that all those great MAC teams of 5 years ago got the shaft in our, then, 1-bid conference. While today, comparatively weak MAC schools are "bowling."All MAC schools, including the Zips, need to start pulling their weight if we want the MAC to gain any national respect. Sending BG to the Congressional Bowl just to get waxed by Navy 65-21 ain't no good. Quote
Zipsrifle Posted April 23, 2008 Report Posted April 23, 2008 Sorry to say it, but in addition to what Cap'n said, the MAC schools need to stay close to home for their bowl games. The MAC schools don't travel well and going to a bowl more than a day's drive away will keep away a lot of fans. I don't think a Bowl in Washington would bring in a good MAC crowd. I love the MCB, it's a GREAT location for the MAC schools. It's averaging well over 50,000 fans over the past 5 years with the MAC schools traveling well. I could see the International Bowl growing in a similar manner. Anything outside of the Midwest will have problems. Quote
